:hello3: I thought it was about time to get on here and write to you all. I have been a member lurking :shocker: since March I am an owner of a mini doxie named Pixie she is a brown and tan wired hair she turned 1 on Jan. 1st. :occasion13: This is my 1st time to ever own a doxie and have always owned big dogs (we recently had to have our 16 year old german short hair pointer put to sleep). :sad2: we have had Pixie since she has been 8 weeks old and she is just the love of our lives. She is a sweetheart but she is such a devil too. :angel4: she gets into everything and she will "kill" everything. She has ripped so many stuff animals and 4 of her beds apart. Has chewed my pillows on the couch just enough to get at the stuffing. She climbs on the table when we're not looking as soon as we see her she jumps off onto the chair then the floor and runs like hell. But then she'll do something to make you laugh. We are having trouble with house training her. She'll go out to go do her thing :dump: she'll do it outside sometimes but she would rather do it inside the house, very fustrating, any suggestions? :help: Hope I have done this right and the picture of Pixie comes out.

(Mama says this picture makes her think of the kid's dare .... don't stick you tongue on the cold flag pole.
...... and notice the snowball hanging around my neck ..... it's the snow collected on my tags.
:love9: what a beautiful picture LOL that is so funny I thought of the same thing as your mommy. eLlIe has more hair than Pixie.... Pixie has all the wire hair look in the face and front 1/2 of her and on the back 1/2 of her she has shorter hair it is so funny I guess it just hasn't come all the way in as of yet. How cold is it in MT? My son is being sent to MN tomorrow (for his work) and he hasn't been in cold weather since he has been 6 years old, he'll be there for a month or so.

Welcome! So glad you decided to post! I think the biggest thing is consistence with potty training. Penny was really stubborn about this so we would take her out EVERY 1/2 hour and then she would not be let out of our sight or in her crate until she went potty. I know this can be so frustrating...but just stick with it.
Welcome, welcome, welcome Pixie and Darlene....Pixie is adorable!! So glad you decided to post and we get to see a picture of your baby!!! Kari is so so so right with potty training...consistency is the key. Hang in there and it will happen......
A big WELCOME to Pixie and Darlene! Madison our b/t mini smoothie and I are GLAD you're here. Potty training? Oh real fun! :doah: Consistency is the best but, of course, I'm not the best teacher as my 10 year old Maddie still gets it into her pea brain that it's much more fun and not nearly as much work to piddle on the couch or bed occassionally......or more than occassionally. See Madderoo? I TOLD ON YOU. Aren't you ASHAMED?
Maddie sez: "Shame? Wuzzat? Does it taste good?"
Since you are use to big dogs will tell you small dogs are harder to house train go back to basics out every 1-2 hours on about a six foot leash stand wherever you want to her to go in the yard tell her to go potty or what ever words you want to use.Use the same words each time when she goes Praise, like it is the most wonderful thing you ever saw. If she does not go keep her tied to you while in the house or crate her. Of course take her out after sleeping, eating, playing or if she is sniffing around. Clean up all accidents with one of the pet cleaners. This way she does not make any mistakes in the house she will learn to do her business outside this is one of the ways dog show people train dogs comes in really handy when on trips, bad weather. The reason is they will soon learn to go potty on command which is great. You have to go with her each time that way you will know if she went or not which is sometimes hard to tell since they are low to the ground.have you checked her out for a UTI sometimes female dogs get UTI's (Urinary track infection) so they will go more.Welcome & Good Luck on the training.
All I had were big dog until I got a Papillon who passed away last year at almost 15 yrs & now have a Long Haired Tweenie Dachshund Patches 2 yrs old & a Doberteen (Doberman) 20 months old.
Papbouv
use to have Bouvier's 20 yrs.
Hello and welcome! As for the potty training...I can't add to the advice already given. Patience and consistency are the real keys. Once she gets it, though, she'll have it for life. I was lucky. My older one was easily trained and helped me train my younger one. I don't know if this is a possibility for you, but doggie doors help tremendously.
What a cutie she is! Thanks for posting the picture. We love pictures around here, so more would be welcomed.
I have a wire (or curly-haired girl, as I call her) also. She's my first wire and a total joy. Her name is Ilsa and here are a couple pictures of her.

What a cute picture, Ruth! I just love her scruffy little face. The black and tan coloring really highlights the eyebrows and mustache.
