Tonight we had a horrifying experience. My big boy Sargent (130lb rottweiler) picked up a part of molly's chew biscuit. Molly got mad and tried to take it from his mouth. Sargent just growls a little at her and she gets really angry and bites him like a rabid dog. Sargents nose got a bit bloody. He however did not bite her back, however during this episode her sister duchess (100lb rottweiler) comes over to see what the growling is about and Molly still in mean mode attacks her and duchess attacks back. This has never ever happened before. SHe was in duchesses mouth, I was horrified and trying to get Molly to safety. It only lasted a few seconds but it felt like a lifetime. Molly seems to only have a swollen gums on one side, she doesnt appear sore or anything and she seems to be back to her normal self. Like for hour after the even her tail was tucked under her body, so I know she was scared. She seems ok now, she is running around playing with her Bobo toy. I will take her to the vet tommorrow and get a checkup and make sure there are no internal problems..
I read that dogs who are part of a pack what hurt one another because it would weaken the pack. I cannot find any blood or bite marks on molly. I throughly checked her and felt her to see if she was sore anywhere. THankfully none. I know in my heart duchess didn't mean to do anything but Molly did attack her as scary as that might sound. The dachshund code of never say die, I guess.
New policy in my house. No more rawhide, bones, chew sticks. Seems all of them only get aggressive over these items.
Thanks in advance for the rays.

Rays to Molly! I hope she is ok! I had a scary recent event as well. George went after Nino over a dropped treat last week. Nino is my son's moose dog. Thank God Nino did not bite back! It really scared me. Nino had a small bloody lip and everything seems ok now, but it was scary. I've never seen George get so crappy! I too cannot give rawhide treats because it is usually George and Grace, but a fight will break out. I crate or put them in seperate rooms with the rawhide treats! That was the first time George ever went after Nino like that! I am glad Nino seemed to have patience with George! But if he did it again who knows what could happen. Thank goodness Jeff will be moving out soon with Nino! It wasn't Nino's fault, but if he had bitten back, God that scares me! Best wishes to you and Molly, I hope all is well!
Glad all came out ok. They do tend to get agressive when chews are involved. I don't ever give them unless I am right there and watching. Sending rays and smoochies to Molly that she is ok today!
Well I was sitting in the same room and I didn't see the tiny piece until sargent growled and was like why is this little dog trying to take this chew out of my mouth and then duchess got involved.
This morning my vey can't get me in until 1:30pm so I have to stress out till then. Molly is drinking water and she had some puparoni treats. She seems very mobile this morning but she is still not acting like herself. She seems more timid and less hyper I hope this is not a permanent thing. If you say her name multiple times in a high picthed voice she gets excited and her tail wags like its going to take off and she is not doing this. I know this could be the trauma of the experience I just hope its not permanent.
I went through her nose to tail and I see no wounds or raised marks or bumps or broken blood vessels in the skin. It seems the right side of her mouth is a bit sore she squeaks when I touch it sometimes and then other times she doesnt. I did notice her gums were kinda pinkish white and not as pink as they were last night. Someone said this may mean something like if the dog is going into shock. I am just paranoid about her.
Any words of encouragement or symptoms I should look for befor 1:30pm for her vert visit would be appreciated.

Lisa, all I can say is RAYS TO MOLLY and I think you're wise to veto the chews when all of them are present. Let us know what the Vet says.
" read that dogs who are part of a pack what hurt one another because it would weaken the pack."
No way. You get the right two members (or maybe I should say the *wrong* two members) of the pack together and they'll *kill* each other. Chewies in my house are *always* under supervision, and preferably only in crates. I have a couple "chewie thieves" and one dog who is a "guarder"... and she'd tangle with *any* one of the pack--including her mother, who is the Alpha. It ain't pretty.
Rays from Missouri and wondering if your back from the vet? I would be very careful with treats, chews and food from now on. I have found that once they get their bluff in that they can be very mean to those they see as weaker:(
Sorry I didn't write back sooner but it turns outs Molly is just fine. Vet gave her a big OK. No teeth marks, bruisng or internal bleeding. Vet said if the rottweiler really wanted to hurt her she would be dead. So he told me they were probably just playing. Normally duchess is submissive to molly and turns upside down. She was a bit tramatized by the whole ordeal but today she is back to her normal self and playing with the other dogs. I have permantely banned chewies so this will not happen again. Thanks for all the rays

Glad to hear Molly is okay. Chewies got banned in our house, too. Rudy used to get particularly aggressive. As tight as him and Max were, he wouldn't think twice about attacking Max when it came to food. Poor Max was not really a match for Rudy and usually ended up on the short end of the stick. Sometimes only his feelings were hurt, but every now and then Rudy would draw blood.
I'm so sorry this happened. I know quite a few people who have dogs who get along great most of the time, then out of the blue they will find something to fight over. Unfortunately in your case the size difference makes it more of a potential life and death situation. If it were me I would really work on Molly and her aggression with the big dogs. You are doing the right thing by not allowing anymore chews but there could be something some day that could still spark them off, especially since it has happened once already. I tend to not agree with your vet, it doesn't sound at all like they were playing. I had a 150 lb Great Dane and a 24 lb longhaired doxie together for several years. I was lucky that they never got into a squabble and were the best of friends but looking back, I know I was just really lucky. So glad everything is ok there, I can imagine how much it scared you.
Well except for this incident they get along great. They play together and hang out together all the time. The only time we ever see aggressiveness was when the rawhides or the chews comes out. Plus I think Molly thinks she is a big dog at times. The thing was that Molly attacked them first, not very smart and every time we would pull a big dog out of the pile Molly would run after them and bite them again. So it took a bit of time to grab Molly and remove her from the situation she is a very muscular dog and has good wiggle muscles.
Well its been a few days and things are back to normal. Just no more chews and life seems good. Thanks for all the rays.
Lisa
Glad all is back to normal. Fortunetly we never had fights over rawhides. However my Sully angel use to put his paw on top of his rawhide and growl whenever the cats would walk through the room when he was chewing on his - as if the cats would want a stinky rawhide.
:apls: Glad things are back to normal. I know with certain fosters I have had to not allow treats.
