Of all of our dachsies, Zora is by far the least predatory (except for her toys that she seems to have no problem "killing" and destuffing). Squirrels don't bother her. Rabbits make her yawn. Cats aren't even worthy of a reaction. Even when face-to-face with a ferret, Zora chose to "mother" it rather than try to kill it (which was what Zeke was doing on the other side of the crate).
However, Zora is by far the most protective of our dachshunds. Normally very quiet, she barks up a frenzy when strangers come in the house. The funniest one was when our friends Nick and Tina came over. Tina is six months pregnant. I guess Zora (and Zeke for that matter) picked up on this as Zora took up an extremely defensive posture next to Tina. Nick went back to the car to get something. When he returned, Zora began "protecting" Tina with a series of barks, even though the little "puppy" inside is Nick's, too. We thought that was pretty funny.
Later the Zs took up a position on either side of Tina as "armrests". Zeke even gave the pregnant tummy a neck hug. Both eventually decided the danger was over and Zeke snoozed off, while Zora relaxed, although her eyes never shut.
What good dogs!!! LOL!
How cute! I love how protective doxies can be, especially the girl doxies.

Dear Sirs:
Prior to accepting a claim of paternity, we at the DNA Innocence Project would argue that Miss Zora, our field agent, was correct in guarding the future work product of Ms. Tina. Since Mr. Nick had abandoned her, albeit for less than three minutes, he would be required to provide a signed afadavit, avadavit, off-of-David, er, letter, that he is the one and only true love of Ms. Tina's life, the father of her future child and her abject slave for the next 5.7 years or until aforementioned future child, hereafter referred to as "FC", is enrolled in a fully accredited kindergarten or pre-school.
We await your expeditious response.
