Well, Cali is 13 1/2-weeks-old now. She always attempts to eat our Golden's adult food when she (our Golden) is fed. I have managed to keep her out of our big dogs food, but now, Cali hasn't eaten all day! Should I be concerned? She's always had a healthy appetite. Could it be like a toddler-they eat a LOT some days but hardly anything other days? I have never seen this before. Thanks in advance!
P.S. I hate to fess up to this-please don't scold me-but, 2 days ago on Christmas Eve when everyone was opening gifts in the living room, we heard a thumping noise coming from the dining room and some whining, which I recognised as Cali. She had gotten shocked from chewing the tree lights cords. She had been before, but we taped them and I had been spraying Boundry (pet spray) on them to keep her away from them. This time, she chewed them while they were plugged in and with all the chaios, went unnoticed and got it good. I checked her mouth and otherwise, she seemed to be fine, ate that night, slept fine, etc. and now today, really no eating or drinking. Regular bathroom habits, overall, just not as often, obviously. I feel horrible.
If she got shocked pretty good, I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't have a couple of burned places in her mouth. That might stop her from wanting to eat or drink. Sometimes a dog will eat no matter what, but a puppy might be stopped if it's mouth hurts. Is there anyway you can look inside and see if that is what it is? You could also see if she will lick something she really likes off your finger. If she's not eating tomorrow, I would call the vet's office and ask them about it since she is still a young one.
I agree with Teresa.
Even my best eaters go off their feed now and again. I let them miss up to two meals, but after that off to the vet. Because you have reason to think that she may be injured, definitely take her to the vet if she doesn't eat tomorrow.
Zack is our electrical cord chewer. When he did this as a pup I ended up spraying all the cords with bitter apple spray that tastes bad....it is not a repellent, it is to keep them from chewing. Now that you know she will chew on these cords I would spray them all with a bitter spray to keep her from chewing on them. She might have learned her lesson but better safe than sorry. Good Luck with breaking her of this. I also used this spray on the outside lights when the squirrels decided that the had to chew the lights off.
Merion & the ZZ's
I did check her mouth and saw a few tiny black spots-not sure if they're burns or just spots! My Golden has big ol' black spots on her tongue. The Boundry I mention is similar to bitter apple and does work, but needs to be sprayed daily and that's a pain. She did learn her lesson, however!!! When I see her sitting anywhere near the tree and she notices she's by it, she'll high-tail it outta there! She did eat some tonight & drink-and suprise-pooped on the floor, so maybe I worried too soon. I appreciate all your support and help. I grew up with dogs the size of LABS-nothing ever this tiny & somewhat more fragile, so we're trying to get used to this and hope she makes it to adulthood! Just kidding-it's not that horendous here! Thanks again.
Do not be fooled into small and fragile....................these guys have a view tha you eat thn if its not edible you can always bring it up again.
Good to hear she is on the fully functioning at both ends.

ps years ago one of our first christmas's we found one balanced on the back of a chair like snoopy trying to get ot the tree ornaments.
Usually, unless they are really sick, a doxie appetite will override anything else! I haven't had to use Bitter Apple in ages since Schatzi, thank goodness, wasn't much of a chewer. I'm thinking, though, that it comes in a spray and also in something a little thicker that stays on better. I do know that it's supposed to stay on for a few days at least.
Thanks everyone. She seemed to be normal in all other ways-playing, etc., but the eating just wasn't happening. Maybe the holiday festivities stressed her out...LOL Either way-this morning, she's back to 100% sassy!!! Man oh mighty, how I adore her. I know she's a tough li'l shmooch, but my kids were born bigger than she is NOW! LOL Oh-and she beats the snot outta the cat who NEEDS it most...hahaha :apls: Oh-I love  it here...at the weenie board. (ME <---- :idiot: )
