I wanted to get something memorable for Drew’s 30th birthday and skydiving was just the ticket! After rescheduling 4 times due to weather he was able to make his tandem jump today! It was so awesome…I think I am going to jump next time. They jump from 12,500 feet and pull the parachute at around 6,000 feet â€" about 50 seconds of free fall. We have a dvd of the jump but need to get it transferred to the computer so in the mean time here are some pictures! Drew is the one with the black helmet !

A few more...
Last one...
So kewl! Not that I would do it, but dag, he looks like he had a great time. He needs to get ya some jewelry now.
There is a small airport near us and they jump regularly during the warm weather. Even though we only moved a MILE from our old house, we are now on the top of the hill and get a better view. In fact, while living in town I didn't even know they were sky diving up here on the "ridge" as the locals call it.
So, the first time I hear the guys going "YAHOO" and screaming from 10,000 feet I had no ideah what the heck I was hearing. And ya can't really see them until they open their chutes. So what does Leslie--the former cartoon addicted kid--think is falling out of the sky? Why, Wiley Coyote, of course, and an anvil after him. :stupid: A few seconds later and the chutes "bloomed" in the sky and I duh got a clue.

LOL! I know what you mean! I was on the ground and could see this tiny fleck that was they plane. The guys on the ground told me that they were jumping out of the plane but you can't really see anything...just tiny little white specks. All the sudden there are a ton of colorful parachutes! There were probably about 15 people that jumped at the same time as Drew. There was one other person that did a tandem jump...everyone else was by themselves.
How incredibly cool!!!!!!!!! I can just imagine what a rush that is. I want to do it sometime, and so does Dan. I bet Drew was so pumped after that was over with. Great 30th. birthday present! The pictures were great!
is he CRAZY - LOL !!!! I could never do it - but it looks so kewl !!!!! The pictures are awesome !!! I guess another jumper took them? The close-up of Drew and his partner is incredible. What a truly fabulous birthday gift ! Happy Barkday.....errr Birthday Drew !!!
Holy weinerdog, Batman! I can't EVEN imagine but it's great that Drew looked like he was having an awesome time. Sheesh! I get the vapors if I'm 2 feet off the ground, much less 2000 feet and more.
Wow! That is cool! My stomach got a pit just looking at that picture of him going out of the plane. I don;t think I could do it. What a great present and those pictures are awesome!
Great pictures. Never could understand why somepeople want to jump out a perfectly good plane.....................
Would love to have the courage to do it.

OMG...just awesome!!! What a wonderful Birthday present :headbang:
What a GREAT gift! Drew looks like he is having the time of his life! Like Leslie, when we lived up North we were by a small airport where they regularly jumped. Keith and I used to sit out on the deck and watch them. What FUN!
What an awesome gift, these pictures are amazing! My nephew just did this for the first time (and certainly won't be his last...the only thing keeping him from going up everyday is the $200 fee). He called me right after to tell me about it and was so pumped. I would love to sky dive but never will take that kind of risk while I am a "Mom"...but I can imagine how fun it would be. Thanks for the pics and Happy Birthday to Drew!

I agree - and that comment about jumping out of a perfectly good airplane - only the deranged!
Karen :angel4:
Karen beat me to the "why would anyone want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane?" comment.
Heck, most people think I'm nuts to do the kind of things that I do with a mountain bike now that I've hit the big four-oh....but skydiving, now that is nuts...but I'll bet it was fun as heck!

I'm working on getting the dvd uploaded! It is so cool and makes it look like so much fun!

That was great. I'd like to hear in Drew's words how he felt, it must have been a rush. What did he feel just before he jumped, etc?
Right, this would so be me:
OH my Gawd, OH my Gawd, OH my Gawd, Do not look down! OH my Gawd, OH my Gawd, OH my Gawd, Do not look down! OH my Gawd, OH my Gawd, OH my Gawd, Do not look down! OH my Gawd, OH my Gawd, OH my Gawd, Do not look down! OH my Gawd, OH my Gawd, OH my Gawd, Do not look down!
I'M FALLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH my Gawd, OH my Gawd, OH my Gawd, Do not look down! OH my Gawd, OH my Gawd, OH my Gawd, Do not look down! OH my Gawd, OH my Gawd, OH my Gawd, Do not look down!
I'm Falling from 12,000 foee AM I nutsz???????????????? OH my Gawd, OH my Gawd, OH my Gawd, Do not look down! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (splat)Â (eyes closed and mouth open sorta makes the landing part harder)
That is too wild - my tummy was turning when he was getting ready to jump - AGHHHHHH.... I would have been screaming my a*s off all the way down - LOL !!!! Boy - you are really yanked up when you pull the cord, aren't ya? My speakers here at work are messed up, so I will watch again at home !!!!
I guess I am a little deranged, because I never considered it dangerous really. They've been jumping out of planes since before they were planes, air balloons in France etc. So I was just pumped ready for the experience of the free fall. It (the free fall portion) happens so fast that it's time to open the chute before you know it. The free fall is very noisy from all the air rushing by you, but once you open the chute it is dead silent/calm and peaceful. Now, only 7-8 more jumps to go before I can do it myself!! :headbang: :headbang:
(I had my belly band on just in case though. )
LMAO.... belly band - Hee Hee !!!! :2funny:
Drew that looks SO cool!!!
So my question is...when I puke, is it going to hit the guy above me in the face? :thinik:
Les you are killin' me. :2funny:

Unfortunately for him yes. :doah: :eeew: :puke:
Waaaay cool, Dude. (Learning to Fly is one of the songs I sing with my band. Now I'll have a great visual to think about when we play it.)
Wow! I loved the song and the video, but speaking for those of us with acrophobia - :eeew: I so wish I weren't afraid of heights - but I am fine in enclosed high places - love the Arch, the Sears Tower, etc. That jumping out of the plane thing -cool that you do it in tandem, but I wonder who did it the very first time - no tandem trainer for that guy!

Possibly this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andre-Jacques_Garnerin
But he likely had inspiration from previous attempts by others.
The guy in the video who makes a funny face while still in the plane does a lot of base jumping, THAT is a little more crazy. He said they typically do it in downtown L.A. during the construction of Skyscrapers.
