Auntie Karen just bought an umbrella to put out on the deck to help keep us dry and snow-free.  The total with shipping was $182.98.

What a great idea Auntie Karen!!   Mama and I are wonderin' though, how well does it do in a wind storm???    :dontknow: We get some MAJOR wind here and we would hate to have it get blown away.   Fanks....

Dear Porky:

I'm not sure how well it would hold up in a wind storm.  Since The Herd wouldn't go out when it's blowing, I plan on cranking it closed when the wind kicks up.  I figure if it doesn't help keep the boys dry, at least I've gotten a nice sun umbrella out of the deal.  (That's one reason I decided not to go with Hallie's quonset hut-style clear plastic pupper enclosure.  If the boys refuse to use it, I can't even use it as a green house - too low to the ground!! LOL!!)

UPDATE:

Auntie Anne and i went to Home Depot and bought stainless steel hex bolts, nuts, flat washers, and locking washers.  We are going to drill holes into the decking and attach the base to it, so we don't have to weigh it down with pavers, which is what Alsto says to do.  We'll install it either today or Sunday.  We'll keep you posted!

Sounds like a good idea to me!  My umbrella has a weighted stand, and I usually close the brolly when it's windy.  I think you'll like it - Brekke likes to sit under hers and watch the rain - I have to escort her to the table first, though.  The girl loves showers and baths, but does not like getting wet from rain!  :2funny:
