We should consider a winter phone tree system so we can keep in touch. If you want, you can sign up for it. We could work out a secure program. Any thoughs?
Karen :sunny: (While it lasts! LOL!)
That's a great idea Karen. I am game. We can have one person collect emails with the information and send it out to everyone either by email or snail mail. That way it isn't posted online. I have time to do it if everyone would like.
Mel
Sounds like an excellent idea!

Karen
Patty, I thought it was a "Winter Phone Tag" system so we could call people we were worried about and check on them. Am I right, Karen?
PHONE TREE PEOPLE, PHONE TREE!!
GEEZ, HASN'T ANYONE OF YOU EVER BEEN PART OF A CAR POOL?? SCHOOL?? SOCCER TEAM?? CHOIR??
KAREN :verdict:
So is it just like a "Phone Tag System" like described above? I have never been involved in one!
LOL thank you for asking Patty, so I didn't have to!
GEEZ, HASN'T ANYONE OF YOU EVER BEEN PART OF A CAR POOL??

I avoid car pools at all costs, I like knowing MY wheels are out there, and I do not like to stop at the store on the way home.

No wonder I was confused, I thought it was a Lower 48 thing.
What would be the purpose of the phone TREE!!! To keep tabs on each other? I think its a good idea, for those times when snowstorms, tornados and earthquakes hit.
I'm so glad I came in at the tail end of this thread. All my questions have been asked - thank you, Patty!
Um...I'm still unclear as to the purpose. Is Patty right? To make sure people are OK in areas hit by storms/disasters?
I think I've got it (could be a southern thing, sorta) but here goes-
It is a little like phone tag, but called a phone tree, probably because you have different people with names to call and not just one. You have names on it with the numbers. If it is like some, different people would have lists, preferably those without bad weather in their area (I could probably qualify as one of those-little chance of snow, little chance of ice, little chance of tornadoes around here. They would be in charge of calling a person on their list who lives in the bad weather area and checking on them and then that person would call the next. That is why it would be like phone tag. We used to have this sort of set up at church for a prayer chain, but with email have changed to that (one email keeps the story straight!).
Karen, am I right on this?? And by the way, for someone who is supposed to be showing signs of dementia, you are really very, very, bright. Would love to see your daughter actually manage to pull that one off!! Those of us on the board could prove her wrong in an instant!
I am pretty sure that is what Karen meant. It seems like a good thing so we can make sure all our friends are safe.
I'm game. I live in Tennessee and have very little (if any) snow. So sign me up in any capacity if that is what's this is for. If not I'd still like to participate.
Darcel
Duh, yup, dat's what I iz trying to say! I'm on the snow line in Maryland. Who wants to start?
Karen, I think (LOL!)
I'm confused - wait,maybe I'M NOT!!
I still don't get it. Explain again. Use small words. Pictures might help.
Janet
We set up a loose knit group of people to keep tabs on one another in the event of emergencies like the Malibu fires, snow storms, tornadoes, etc.
Say I am in contact with Patty in Alaska and Kari in San Diego. I get a big snow storm but don't lose power. The news reports that Baltimore had a blizzard. Either girl who saw it on the news, and e-mails or calls me to make sure I'm o.k. I respond that I'm fine and either I or the contact person posts a "Karen's o.k." of the wiener board. Say I lost power. No phones or internet. Contact person posts a "Karen's out of touch" on the board. As soon as I'm up and see it, I check in of the board. If I have a crisis, I can call the contact person and let her know what's happening. She will post details on the board, which lets me keep all my friends in the loop, but I don't have to worry about signing in. The contact does it for me.
It's loose knit as I said and rather fluid. Names, addresses, and phone numbers are voluntarily exchanged.
Karen
:thumb: Sounds good to me.... Count us in.... :meme: We haven't yet got our storm of the year, which usally, when said and done, we get at least three good ones... And, I always worry about everybody hear, when I hear about "nature gone mad".... Good idea, Karen...
Count me in. Excellent idea.
Now that we've cleared up the issue o what a Phone Tree is, who wants to get the list of phone numbers together? Since the bad weather keeps moving through right now, this is probably a good time to get organized. I'm off to work, but I'll PM mine to Karen in case you all get something organized today.
I should have the time to help as well. Just let me know. Here is my email: Lilepad336@aol.com

I'm in as well....
Hey Patty! Did you forget HURRICANES???????? It's not always paradise down here ya know! :doah:
O.K. Let's try to get this off the ground!
We need two people who know how to get info off the Internet on weather happenings.
I'll be at the base of the tree. I have a land line, two cell phones, and Internet. I am in the Eastern time zone. You can Personal message me your name, address, land line number, cell numbers, non-wiener e-mil addresses, whatever you want. It will be kept confidential. If weather is coming your way, you can check in on the wiener board. If weather watchers see bad weather in you area, they'll contact me and I'll check in on you. If I am out of contact, I need a second in command - Mel, I think you volunteere? Can you cover for me if I need it?
All comments and suggestion are welcome!
Karen

LOL!!! And not always ice and snow and earthquakes up here! You keep those hurricanes down there, I want nothing to do with them! My emergency would probably be one of those wind storms we get after the first of the year. It tends to knock the power out, and a few rotten trees.
I will try to get back on here tomorrow and get my info PM'd to Karen... I know that right now we are in a winter storm warning, but then again, it could just be something us in this little hole in the mountains are used to... lol You never know though.. They were calling for about 10 in. in the mountains... Apparently they don't know our sleepy little hole that well... :doah: When they say 10 in. we usually get well over 12.... I will sneak on tomorrow sometime and get everything to you Karen... I work until 5 tomorrow night... Heck, I'm not even sure how long this warning is supposed to last.. Wish us luck... lol
Auntie Kawen,
I jus' got one question. Can dis system be used by da puppers too? We are supposed to get more snow on Fwiday and I'm afraid I will hab no pwace to use da facilities...iffen ya know what I mean. I already hab limited use of my yard due to da snow. It looks like Pwincess Emmy and her Mama will need da assistance of da doxie diggers abter dis BIG storm dey are supposed to get. Is dere a way to alert da diggers???!
Fank you for listening to my concerns.
Porky Pie
P.S. Mimi, Tuttle, and Carson may need da diggers dis weekend too, I'm not sure yet. Miss Hallie needs da rain crew at her house fwom what da news is telling me.
Count us in! :hello2:
Karen, I will be your back up. I'm central time zone here. And I am a weather geek. If I am not on WW then I am on one of many weather sites. So no problem here. I will send you my info.
Mel
PS: I can send out some weather updates for this weekends storm if anyone is interested.
