Title: Part dog, part parrot?
Post by: David C. on December 08, 2007, 11:49:27 PM
I took the Zs over to get their nails clipped this morning.   It was their first ride in the Subaru.  I put them in the rear, and figured that they couldn't get over the seat.   They seemed content riding back there, having better than a 270 degree field of view.   I could see both of them on their hind legs, forepaws on the window sill staring out the window.

When we got to the vet, Zeke became excited because he knew he was going to get attention.  Zora freaked out.  This is pretty normal, except this time Zora decided to climb up my arm and perch on my shoulder, like some kind of four-legged parrot.  She then tried to hide behind my head as if trying to think "If I can't see you, you can't see me".    The other people in the vets office and the staff thought this was very funny.

The Zs actually got to see a real parrot.  It was not a happy camper and was squawking up a storm, which caused the Zs to answer with their own barking, so maybe Zora knew a parrot was around.   Also, Zeke was able to come nose-to-nose with a Shepherd/Husky mix, which was funny since this dog had a good 85 pounds on Zeke.  Zeke is still tipping the scales at the low 15s, while Zora is now down to a very trim 12.2 pounds (down from 13.7 last may).

On the ride home, Zora figured out how to get out of the back and worked her way up to the front seat, where she curled up and settled down.   Zeke, however, was still in the back and began to whimper for Zora.   Zora immediately perked up and looked at me with that "What should I do now?" look on her face.   Her instincts seem to be torn between returning to Zeke, or to stay by me.   In the end, she ended up staying with me.     Luckily the ride is very short, about 7 minutes, so Zeke didn't have to suffer for long.   I'd say the Zs are giving their new "Dogmobile" two paws up!

Maybe Zora wanted to show Zeke how flexible 12.2 lbs can be and how easily she can climb from the back to the front of the car! I love the visual of her being a parrot. That is exactly what Schatzi does when she is uncertain about something. I'm glad everything went well at the vets and that they approve of the Dogmobile.

Lol to the part parrot  !!!!   My Brandy is the same way - but she will try to hide underneath my arm.   Rudy gets so excited - he drags me in !!!

I love the story of the siblings being "seperated".  If it had been much farther - you probably would have had to pull over and go get Zeke !!!!

Poldie-Angel used to sit on my shouder and the back of the chair while I would play the "Pirates" video game.  We used to call him Pold the Parrot.
