This morning was in my bedroom on the computer MIL called & talked about an hour then older sister called talked to her for about an hour. Older sister was telling about how the younger sister was robbed Saturday they broke the bedroom window out stole all her hubby's guns & knife collection and stole all her jewelry. They left the side gate open she was really lucky her Bichon Jake did not leave the yard he was still there when they got home.
Back to Patches I finely got off the phone went to go see what Patches was up too she got into my yarn making Dish Cloths for Christmas presents it was the cotten yarn on a cone. She chewed it up pretty good as soon as I picked up and said bad dog she went under the couch.'When Daddy got home she went to him for sympathy I told him what she did he said were you a bad dog under the couch she went again. Latter he called her out she got up into his lap usually she gets on the side facing me, I was crocheting so she gets on the other side of him. He says she is trembling ??? all I said was she was a bad dog???She really has Daddy wrapped around her little paw. I latter fixed her dinner she was not to upset to come eat, then after our dinner Hubby asked me if I fed her I said of course I fed her guess she was giving him the L@@K.She gets to sleep in her crate tonight not in bed with the Mom put the chewed up cone in front of the crate so she will know why she is in the crate.

Oh no! I'll bet your jaw dropped to the floor when you saw that!
Well...you have to smile a little (or maybe you aren't ready to do that yet :) but you will!) to picture her sneaking that while Mom was busy on the phone. Sounds like she knew she was wrong, and that she doesn't like to be bad. She sounds like a sensitive little girl. Honestly, I don't think she will be able to connect the chewed cone and being in her crate with what she did wrong...you pretty much have to catch them in the act for it to connect and then should just be a clear "no bad dog" and done with it. Otherwise it is confusing to them and stressful since they don't understand what they did or have any options to "fix" it. Just like with potty training...
No Patches didn't pay me to say that....lol! My advice...keep the chewed up yarn, one day it will make you smile and wish she were that chewy young girl again! :angel4: I hope tomorrow goes better for you guys! Will you have time to get new yarn and make new dish cloths before Christmas?
I have to agree with DeeDee. Dogs live in the moment, and they can't connect present punishment with past misdeeds--even when the chewed up cone is facing them. After catching her in the act and reprimanding her, that should be the end of the punishment.
Boonie and Fella love to chew my yarn, too. I figure it's my job to help them be good dogs by keeping temptation out of their way. I try to put my knitting up out of reach when I set it down, but I do slip up from time to time!

Seriously. I have to tell guests not to leave any food below the height of the kitchen counter. If Loki drinks their beer,oh well...
I tell people to not put anything on the floor that they don't want "marked" by Willy and Alex...........backpacks, purses, etc. Its just what doxies do. The are curious and interested in everything. They also get bored easily and need to be kept occupied with doxie-stuff. Sometimes its hard to remember to keep our stuff up out of their reach. I don't think you should punish Patches with a night in the crate.
Bummer about your sister getting robbed, I'm glad Jake wasn't harmed.
