We are planning to add one to keep Brekke company! I have one on my screensaver, and Rick absolutely drools when he sees it! I have the names of two reputable breeders with cream in their lines. We are hoping for a girl who is 8 or 9 months old and doesn't look as good for show as the breeder had hoped, or a boy or girl at 2 to 3 years who isn't suitable for their breeding program, after all. Rick wants to name a girl "Blondie" (ick - not a name that goes well with my other more unusual names!). We checked with about 10 people in rescue - they say they have never seen a cream in the 7 to 8 years they have worked rescues. Please email me if you know a breeder of mini longhair creams - especially if they are in the southern CA region!
How exciting. I hope you hear something soon. I have a feeling that this one will be Rick's dog! I'm sure Brekke will enjoy having a playmate and not mind sharing her spoiled lifestyle again one bit! Is Rick feeling better now?
Julia I LOVE the cream lh and hope one day to add one to the tribe. A couple years ago when I went to the Detroit Kennel Club Dog Show I saw a Cream LH who was wearing the cutest straw hat. Turns out the pupper was a boy and hated it so much(wonder why?). From then on I wanted one.
Hope one comes your way soon.
:xfinger:
I saw a cream when I went to the dog show with Ron and Delia a few years back - gorgeous!!! I couldn't believe it was a doxie !!!
Julia - where in Texas ?????
how exciting !
One other thing......HA on the name Blondie...how about Marilyn ????? :2funny:
Better yet what about Harlowe after Jean Harlowe who's nickname was Baby or Baby Girl
I like Harlow! I am hoping for more ideas - will have to look through my Anne McCaffrey books some more...
THAT would be a perfect name !
I am soooo excited for you Julia! I love the cream LH's too. Brekke will like having a new sibling I'm sure. Can't wait to hear news that you found Harlowe! :)
Aubrey is in Oklahoma last I heard. Maria Wild also has good creams. You should also check with Mary Ann Foxwell. I have 4 creams - 2 males and 3 females - and 3 cream who have cream sires. Mine all go back to the Devoncream lines. One boy is a Am/Can/Int Champion and one girl is an Int Champion. The boy who is my current picture is pointed in the US and in Canada but really hated the show ring. The others are just starting out showing.

Hi Julia, hope all goes well in your hunt.
My beloved Angus' sires side were cream, and had time and tide been better for the breeders we got him from, he might have fathered a few. The owner was diagnosed with ovarian cancer after giving birth, and the government would help her with home care, but not to look after her Jnr 4 legged, we got him and the rest is history. Angus was very pale blonde red.
His background was Roleta(UK) and Shelahnuh kennels .
Hows about Bailey as in Bailey's irish cream
Thank you, Roberta! I especially appreciate lines or kennel referrals! Bailey's Irish Cream would be so appropriate - Still is an Irish name - even though hubby swears that's not how his ancestors got the name!
I had a referral to one about 52 miles away, but she has moved to Utah, and the nice woman who bought Mary's kennel doesn't raise dachsies! On to plan B!
I would really appreciate it if everyone would only refer breeders (or share other information/opinions about breeders) to other members via email or Private Message.
Thanks.
Wiener Writings has always had such a policy and the reasons behind that are to keep the board from appearing to be affilated with any breeders, to keep the board from appearing to tolerate breeder advertising, and to keep discussions about breeders between members away from a public forum (to minimize risk of public misrepresentation, which could lead to legal action).
Thanks Krista. There are so many doxie's out there that need to be rescued. Thanks for supporting us. If anyone wants links can we put them in a special place on the board? Also maybe some information on why you shouldn't breed or buy from a breeder? I have some very informational papers from SNAP.
While I support rescue, I also support REPUTABLE breeders who are doing all they can to produce the healthiest and closest matches to their respective breed standard. Without the hard work and dedication of breeders like this, breeds we have all grown to love would one day cease to exist as they were intended to be.
The poor effects of backyard breeding and puppymill breeding have already taken a huge toll on popular breeds in the USA. More health problems are cropping up, more temperament issues are being seen, and "purebred" dogs often don't even really look like what they are supposed to look like on top of all that. These so called breeders who breed for today without thinking of the breed's future do a great disservice to dog lovers.
Reputable breeders who take the time to research and study lines, carefully choose the best overall (health, temperament and confirmation) examples to breed, document their results and mentor future breeders -among other reputable breeding practices - are helping to insure that generations from now, there will examples of what dachshunds should truly be for future fanciers to love.
Rescue is of course very important because of all the backyard breeders and puppy millers producing so many puppies and catering to the impulse buyer in the USA. These impulse buyers often also quite readily abandon the dog when things don't seem perfect later on. You and all the rescue workers are to be applauded for all you do to aid these animals and educate people.
Links for any animal rescue group can be posted in this forum.
Again, we ask that breeder referrals or complaints be kept to email or PM mainly so that no breeder is misrepresented (positively or negatively) by another person on this board and so no one appears to be advertising for breeders.
