Title: Rays Needed for Solomon
Post by: sollysmom on December 03, 2007, 04:38:17 PM
Please send rays Solly's way as his left paw has become inflamed and sore.  I took him to see Dr. Gayk today.  He took x-rays and told me there were no broken bones (that was good), but there was soft tissue swelling of the pad on his fourth toe.

They gave me Tramadol to give him for pain, and to do hot packing of his foot to obtain better blood flow and reduce swelling.  Since they could not see any broken or fractured bones they said it could be an infection or maybe just severely bruised.  I am to keep him from any jumping, etc. ( He is in his cage asleep).   If it doesn't get any better by Thursday, I am to take him back for further testing.

Keeping my fingers crossed for the best outcome.

I took Solly back to the vet today.  His left paw is still painful and his tootsie is still swollen.  They took x-rays, again, nothing new there thank goodness.

The vet has put him on an antibiotic, doxycycline, an anti-inflammatory, Metacam, and more Tramadol for pain.  If he does not get any better by Monday, back we go.

Keep sending those rays.  He definitely need all he can get.

Update: Solly's toe has gone down.  He will now stand on his paw but still doesn't like to walk on it.  He has a few antibiotics left, so I don't know if I need to give him more time to heal, or if I need to take him back to the vet.  I need to get him ready for the trip to my sister's in Michigan.  She has a 13 year old smooth red small standard named Gretel, and Solly likes to play with her toys. Plus, since I am still looking for work, I plan on staying in Michigan 2 weeks instead of  just one and I would like Solly to be in good health.  I guess the best thing to do is to check with his vet, Dr. Gayk.  He is a godsend.  He knows that I was laid off in August and has been giving me a "Discount".  God bless him.  Will let you all know how Sol is progressing.  Thanks for all the healing rays.

I took Solly back to vet yesterday.  He was still lame in his left paw, and has pain through a number of different joints.  He took x-rays and found no disc problems (whew!), and ran a urinalysis which was mildly adnormal .  He has no definite diagnosis, so here's what we are doing:  1.  Cage confinement for 1 week just in case it is disc disease.   2.  Giving meds  Doxycycline until gone, and Prednisolone (a steroid).

Dad and I are leaving Saturday for MI, and Solly will be traveling in his cage strapped in the back.  Dr. said that was ok.  Keep him caged and still as possible.  I will try to get on-line from my brother-in-law's computer and keep everyone posted as to how he is doing.  I'm  everyday all  day for my baby to get better.

Thanks for all your healing rays for Solly.

Oh Darcel, so sorry to hear that Solly is still not feeling well!!  I too am  that he feels better soon.  It sounds like your Vet is very good and on the ball; making sure it is not a disc problem.  Could it be arthritis?  Please keep us posted on his progress.  Have a safe trip to Michigan and a very Merry Christmas!
