Title: Rays needed for Daisy
Post by: luvmydoxnds on November 13, 2007, 12:51:52 PM
Please say a prayer for my Daisy.  She had surgery for a ruptured disk in 2003 and made a full recovery from paralysis and regained all her functions.  We were so estatic about how well she recovered. She's had a few problems with her back from time to time when the weather gets cold but nothing that didn't get better in a few weeks.  A little over a week ago she was coming in from out side when she let out this awful scream and hasn't been herself since then.  She's not suffering from any paralysis but I can tell she's very uncomfortable.  She's on some good meds from the vet but still isn't herself.  Usually after a week we always see some improvement.  Please say a prayer that my girl recovers from this.  I know it takes time and patience for these things to heal and I've got all the timein the world for her.  Her doxie sister is going nuts without her playmate.  I'm new to this site so I just want to say thanks to everyone for saying a prayer for my baby.  I've been on an emotional roller coaster since all of this happened.  Thanks again
Tina

Tina, we are sending mega healing rays and prayers for Daisy to make another full recovery  .  Many of us here have also had the same problems you have discussed.  My Zoe had surgery in August of 2006 and so far  :xfinger: has made a full recovery.  Please join www.dodgerslist.com (http://www.dodgerslist.com) if you have not done so.  They have tons of wonderful information and helpful suggestions.  Also, do you have Care Credit in case another surgery is needed (Heaven forbid).  Remember, crate rest, crate rest, crate rest (6 to 8 weeks) is necessary to aid Daisy in her recovery.  Please let us know how she is doing....we are all here for you both!!!

Oh, Tina, I'm so sorry! Sending rays and prayers for Daisy's recovery. Did you try a heating pad on her while she's in your lap? It seemed to help when our Gretchen had soreness in her back (twice now) since her back surgery. Is she on any supplements? Gretchen hasn't had any back problems (knock on wood) since we put her on Glycoflex.

Yes please join dodgerslist, crate rest is very important 6-8 weeks. Also vitamin Ester-C and glucosamine/chondroitine will help. Also ask your vet about adequan shots-liquid glucosamine. A friend of my whose dog had surgery then had a relapse about 7 months later though she may have to PTS because he was in so much pain and I recommented the shots and he is doing much better.

Thank you so much for all your prayers and encouraging words.  She seemed to be just a teeny bit better last night.  When I walked in the door from work it looked like she was trying to wag her tail.  It was the most encouraging sign in over a week.  Then about 2:30 this morning we had another howling episode.  I had to pick her up to take her to pee and I guess I touched the wrong spot.  We are being so careful when handling her and it absolutely breaks my heart when she howls like that.  We have been using a heating pad but right now she's not taking any supplements.  I have only been giving her  the medicines from the vet.  Our vet has really been great with her back problems over the years.  Should I give her supplements in addition to her current medicines from the vet?  After she had her surgery we started giving her I  it was called "Vetridisc" not sure becuase I don't have the bottle in front of me.  Any websites you can post for supplements would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks again everyone for your kindness it means so much to us.   We've had Daisy since my son was 4 years old and he's now 12.  He is crushed by her being this hurt.  He's even willing to give all of his money that he's saved up this year to help pay for surgery if it comes to that.   Tina

Tina, there are many supplements on the market.  I give my two glucosamine and chondroitin with MSG every day.  If in doubt of giving supplements at this time, please go to Dodgers List and send a message to Guadalupe Rivera....she is the GURU of supplements and medications and is very knowledgeable in this area.  She can probably tell you where to purchase the best supplements and also if you should give them to Daisy now.  My opinion is that it couldn't hurt but I want you to be sure that is the case.  Could you also ask your Vet about giving her supplements at this time?  I agree with Luvmygunner that you should talk to your Vet about adequan shots (they would help).  Accupuncture is helpful also.  You might want to go to www.holisticvet.com (http://www.holisticvet.com) to check out Vets who practice holistic medicine in your area.  When my pupper had surgery I did so through Care Credit and paid it off 12 months same as cash (I hope it doesn't get to that point with Daisy).  Definitely wagging the tail is a wonderful sign  :thumb:  We are all here for you!
