Saturday, I went to the church to practice Sunday's music. I pulled up to the door like I usually do, unlocked the front door of the church and went inside. I practiced my music and the hymns, then left, making sure the church stayed locked up. I jumped into the car and started to drive away, when I noticed something on the front wall of the church.
Someone had spray painted, in black, two "6's", a star, and a circle with a triangle inside the circle on the front right side of the church!!! I called our choir director because his number was the only one in my cell phone. I walked around the church building and noted no more graffiti, then checked inside the church again to make sure everything was in place. We have been broken-into before, with some minor damage done inside, and TV/VCR stolen, but have since burgle-proofed the building (at least as proofed as a building can be).
Our church president came over and filed a report with the police. She was once on the city council, so she is good friends with most of the police officers. The officer said it was probably kids because they did not finish up the "6's" with the third 6, the star was a very bad impression of the Star of David, and the circle with the triangle has no gang meaning.
Still, we will have a hard time completely erasing the symbols since they were sprayed on the brick portion of the building, and the brick absorbed some of the paint.
Our church president said she was glad I caught the markings. Word spread through the grapevine, so almost everyone knew about the graffiti before coming to church on Sunday, which would have really upset some people right before worship, which would not be good.
The officer hopes they catch these kids, because they have done some damage to businesses as well.
If these are kids, their parents certainly have got to be real proud of them.....NOT! I'm sorry this happened to your church building. Graffiti, no matter where it pops up, is such a stupid act. Grrrrrrr.
Sounds like these perps need a REAL job. If they're caught, they should be made to scrub it all off and repaint. Grrrrrr.
That's awful! I am glad you saw it before Sunday morning. I know how my church would have reacted to that surprise on a Sunday morning. I hope you don't get vandalized again, twice is more than enough!
How terrible. Vandalism is a horrible act. They should be made to scrub it off with soap and toothbrushes, no matter who they are :cussing:
