Title: I pulled a good one on my mama!
Post by: doxielady5569128 on November 01, 2007, 10:23:29 AM
Cough Cough, Hack, Hack.... I was running around da house yestaday and wast night following mama all around.   She kept making dese weird noises.   I decided I would try it out.  :nana:  I did my best Gack noise and den I did my sneeze.   I though mama would fink it was funny, but she freaked out!   Dose mama's get scared too easy.  I stopped making da noise after mama wigged out on me.   I guess she wants ta type somefing now.

Hey everyone, do you think its possible Porky was just copying me?   He looks and acts normal and he only did it once.   I would think if it were something serious he would have done it again.  He hadn't eaten anything so I know it wasn't choking.   I have never heard of a dog copying their hoooman's cough, but ya never know.  This is Porky we're talking about.   :2funny:   What are your opinions on it???

Too funny!  :2funny: Tuttle does the same thing. I think it is just for the attention really! Then the look he gives when your checking him out is priceless. Like he is saying to me what is wrong with you? Plus he has always been a "talker", very vocal to us. Does Porkey do that too?

To say Porky is a talker would be an understatement.  :2funny:   He grunts and growls to let us know when he is happy, sad, or mad.  And, boy oh boy, does he have a BARK when he's angry.   :2funny:  I'm glad I'm not the only one with a silly copy-cat...er, dog???

My Winston is very verbal also....he makes all kinds of whines, noises, gurgles.  Could be Porky just wanted some attention!!

Sophie uses the "polite cough" when she wants to be sure that I see that she is there, (and available for a treat).  For instance, when I'm dipping Rich some ice cream, Sophie is at my feet, and will issue the "polite cough".  She doesn't get any ice cream, and she knows it, but she still hopes, I guess!  So, it CAN be a voluntary behavior...

With Porky he could be copying you hard to say I know Patches & Buddy both talk all the time they are the most talkative dogs I have ever had I would think with Porky anything is possible if he does it a few more times I would say have him checked out at the vets. If he does not do it anymore I would say he was copying you.You never know now days what can be passed back & forth between humans & dogs. Along time ago I read if some one keeps getting Strep throat get the dog checked too.

Don't forget that moving, packing and unpacking can kick up a lot of dust!

Good point Karen.  We have a lot of dust at our new house.  Because, A. Its on  a dirt road and B. Its an old farmhouse that tends to get drafty.  We are working on getting plastic on the windows for the winter.  This summer we plan on asking the landlord to raplace the windows on the west and north sides of the house.  We are going to offer to pay for them and put them in if they can reimburse us for it or take it off our rent.

If we could just get one day with no wind so we could get the plastic up, that would make all the difference!  But, hey this is Nebraska where the weather is always wind, windy, and windier on a daily basis.   :2funny:

Hmmm...that's odd, my entire post didn't show up! I had written (somewhere!) in my post that  I am sorry you have been sick! I am just getting over a nasty cold too, it started right after I swept up the garage after they worked on the sheetrock in there and I wondered for a couple of days if it wasn't irriation from that. Then it turned into a full blown cold which I was happy to see then I knew it wasn't allergies or something I breathed in. Hallie didn't copy me though LOL she probably knows she'd be at the vet in 0.2 seconds if she dared to cough or sneeze. I'd bet it was a coincidence with Porky. Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks Dee. I am feeling well enough to go to work and I can actually sleep at night now.  Before I was coughing so badly I had to literally prop up my pillows and sleep sitting up.  I'm sorry you got the nasty cold.  Three of my co-workers just came down with a stomach virus and a cold so I'm on-call at work until further notice.  We only have 5 trainers so it's going to get interesting in the next few days.  I worked 6 am until 1pm today with no break so the 70 year old trainer doesn't work herself to death trying to cover for the others.

I'm pretty sure it was a coincidence with Porky as well. He hasn't done it since. I think he saw how badly it freaked me out.  I almost did rush him into the vet, but thought I would wait and see if he did it again.
