As Ricky Ricardo would say, "Somebody's got sum 'splainin' to do!"
Merlin's DNA test came back with NO dachshund or basset, but with Yorkshire Terrier, Miniature Schnauzer, and Bernese Mountain Dog.
NOW BEAU"S DNA test came back. His dirty little secret is about to be revealed. . .

Bernese Mountain Dog and Italian Greyhound!
So, if BMDs are BIG and Italian Greyhounds have long spindly legs, so fragile the rescue site on the Web warns potential owners about the inevitability of high vet bills and broken legs, how did Our beloveed Beau, with short, achrondroplastic tree stumps for legs, weighin in at a robust 19 pounds, get this kind of ancestry??

I am beginning to think the DNA test simply cannot pick up the dachshund gene.

OF COURSE!!
They're so short, they're "under the radar"!! ROFL!
Karen :2funny:
Can that be right?
Janet
LOL well thanks for that Karen, now we know not to spend our money on this DNA test.
I'd love to see what would happen if we did a DNA test on Zora & Zeke -- half siblings with a very well-documented bloodline to see what they come up with....German Shepherd and Belgian Police Dog?
:2funny:...oh my....too funny!!! I think whomever is processing your dna tests has a screw loose
The thing that makes it questionable is that both have Bernese mountain dog in them. If they both had two completely different breeds I wouldn't question it as much (even though they look just like dachshunds to me), but for both to have Bernese mountain dogs, hmmmmm...
Yea, right, that short-legged doggity sure does look like an Italian Greyhound! :2funny: And crossed with a Burneses Mountain dog too! What a hoot! '
Obviously, I think the DNA scanner is out of calibration...or the samples got mixed up. Imagine...you have an Italian Greyhound mix and the DNA comes back and says...dachshund!
Looks like a Doxie to me too neither of the breeds they mentioned have log bodies or short legs so where did the short legs come from ?????
Papbouv
Hmmmmmmm...I'm wondering if the people testing might be a little confused :verdict: :doah:
:2funny: Well, um...maybe they just aren't done growing? :2funny: The test sounds a little off to me as well. If I had the time, money, etc....I'd send in a sample of Porky's DNA to be tested. Wonder what he'd turn out to be??? An Irish Wolfhound maybe??? :2funny: Porky's bloodlines are well documented too so it would be interesting to see if dachshund showed up on his.
I just can't get over the Bermese Mountain Dog and Italian Greyhound combo....can you imagine. That would honsetly be a really weird looking dog. Imagine, a Huge muscular body with long spindly legs. Too funny!
