Title: Here's the scoop on KLEINE (posting for Eileen)
Post by: PattyInAK on September 12, 2005, 01:35:44 PM
I got an email from Eileen, she went to see Kleine yesterday.  Kleine was happy to see her.  And she peed for Eileen on her own, without any expressing, so there is hope.  Today Kleine was to have a spinal tap and they might do more surgery to see if there was some damage caused by the first surgery.  Eileen is doing as well as can be expected, she appreciates all the thoughts and prayers, and she's just trying to maintain some composure at work.

YAY.  I don;t know how Eileen is doing it--I would have to be sedated if my beloved kidz were in this type of medical trouble.  Maybe she has turned the corner.  Praying for all.

Eileen gave me the go-ahead to post her last two emails explaining whats going on with Kleine.
She appreciates your continued prayers.

"I went to see Kleine yesterday.  Cost $50 in gas to get there.
>Anyway, she looked good and was soooo happy to see me.  We took her outside
>in the sun and I GOT HER TO PEE.  Had to hold up her back legs and she
>started walking on her front legs and then peed!  They have been having to
>express her, but she peed for me.  I told them what I did and they have
>tried since then (so they say) but she hasn't peed for them and they have
>still had to express her.  Oh God...she grabbed onto my arms with her little
>front paws and did not want to go back in the cage.  That is the
>heart-wrenching part about seeing her, but I'm still glad I did because I
>got her to pee (which leaves me to believe that if she did it for me, she is
>physically able to....)  She is under anesthesia right now for the SECOND
>spinal tap.  Am waiting to hear if they are going to open her up and do an
>exploratory surgery at the site of her first surgery.  I did speak with them
>about accupuncture and they actually have an accupuncturist there...it will
>be an option if all else fails.  Their opinion is to do everything medically
>proven to work (HA!) first, and then try holistics.  Thanks for writing to
>me...it is really helping.  It is so hard for me to function normally right
>now, and I am right in the middle of doing a budget at work.  So hard to
>concentrate with tears in my eyes...."

"...just heard from the vet...they took spinal fluid at her back and her neck and both were inflammatory.  This leads them to believe that it is something viral or auto-immune going on with her...he mentioned crazy things like menengitis (sp?), distemper, West Nile....none of these things should could have caught where we live unless she picked them up at the vet in Colorado.... and she had no fever, vomiting, other symptoms, so I am so very confused.  He didn't want to do the surgery right then because he wanted to confer with two other neurologists who weren't there and he didn't want to keep her under any longer.  Thinks high doses of prednisone..great...that makes her pee like crazy....said she was on pred before but not on high doses for a longer period of time.  Mentioned some other meds, too.  Gosh, how much stuff can they pump into my little (now 9.3 pound) girl.  Will call me back tonight after talking to the other specialists.  This is just insane....I almost wanted the exploratory surgery but he said he doesn't think it is the fat pad thing now..all I can do is go by what they think.  I know there are some other Doxies out there on the Board who need some rayz so please pass them on for me..."

Wow Patty. I should have thought of Meningitis. My good friend Trish's 14 month old Golden has it and almost died the other night. He is now doing well but they had a devil of a time diagnosing what the problem was. Do you think you could send me Eileens' email address? I would like to compare symptoms and all with Kleines, there are many similarities. who knows! My friend lives here near me but this all happened at their winter home in Utah where they are right now visiting. That's not too far from Colorado. Another good friend of mine here, Great Dane had meningitis.

Hi Patty

Thanks for posting for Eileen. Pls let her know we are all thinking of her and lots of hugs, prayers and healing rays are going out to dear little Kleine.

The meningitis thing sounds a little like what Miki had - he is still on prednisone and antiseizure meds but he has not had a relapse in 8 months and is doing FANTASTIC! Tell Eileen that we thought Miki only had 6 months to live and they also said it was some auto-immune thing. Doxies are strong resilient babies and we KNOW Kleine will get better!!

Please keep us posted.

Please let her know we are thinking of her.  If it is meningitis that can be treated.  It's a good sign that she was able to pee on her own though even if it's not consistent yet.  Things seem to be looking up some at least for how Kleine is feeling.  Rays and prayers are still going out for them!

I feel so bad that I am just now reading this post.  I know how hard this can be, and my heart goes out to Eileen, because it is so hard on us to see our babies this way.  But as I said things will work out and she will have her baby back in no time. :angel4:
