Yes.  Thanks for showing me this!!  I was at work doing my personal trainer thing, when one of our clients told me Steve Pederson was fired.  To be honest, I ws kinda socked by that one.  I was expecting Callahan and Cosgrove to feel the most heat on this one.  I'm not really sure what duties Steve Pederson had as athletic director.   I guess if he's in charge of he hiring/firing for Cosgrove and Callahan that might be why he took the heat.  Any idea?

I am glad they are taking action about this!!   Something needs to be done. What happened to our Blackshirts reputation???   I guess they just don't care anymore.  Its aggravating as a fan.  Been watching them my whole life and I don't remember them EVER looking this bad.  Course I'm only 25 so...I know there were some bad years.     I just got lucky and missed those.

Hopefully this will help us out.  Although its too late this year I think to even dream of a bowl game.    :doah:

A new athletic director is a start, but what they really need is a new coach.  Solich was fired after a 9-3 season, yet they hang onto Callahan, who makes Solich's tenure looks like the Huskers' golden years. You might not know this, but I went to NU, and my cousin played for the Huskers in the early 80s.  Thus I get to have an opinion, too!

I agree with you Jeri!  I'm still kinda angered about the whole Solich firing. I think he deserved to have another chance personally.  Callahan was proclaimed by all the media when he was hired to be the one to "save the team" and get us our next national championship.  Doesn't look like it to me.  Callahan really needs to fire Cosgrove and fix the defense, immediately.  Its too late for this embarrassment of a season, but any little thing helps.   I think Callahan is trying, but he needs to hire new coaches under him.
Yes, you are definately okay to voice your opinion!

From what I heard on the news last night here in Omaha was that the team was meeting in Omaha to discuss how they want Callahan gone as well. Of course this was also along with Osborn accepting the job for director which was false. I did hear one player who played a while ago say that it was demoralizing to watch the game on Saturday and it was so disgraceful to have to put up with Callahan. So it will get interesting for sure in the days to come. I think since they had to pay out Peterson's contract they don't want to have to pay out any others. So who really knows what is going on. One thing is for sure. All over the boards here at work (I work for University of Nebraska in Omaha) that people are giving away their tickets to the games!! I am looking forward to this weeks game though just to see what is going on!!!

I heard an interview with Warren Buffett saying that is they fire Callahan and the other coaches, it will cost them a minimum of 10 million!   That a big chunk of change!!   I'm not sure of the validity of that though.     I also heard they were calling Osborne in for help with choosing the new director. But, not as the director himself. Not sure where that rumor got started.

I do know that there are a lot of people giving away their tickets and trying to get refunds.   I think that's kinda stinky. We may play really well after this. This could have been the wake-up call they needed to kick it in high gear and start playing.  We'll see.  It will be interesting to see how many fans show up to the next home game.    :dontknow:  Since Nebraska is known for their "die-hard" fanbase, I hope that the stadium will still be full.  I would hate for us to lose that reputation over 3 lost games.    Yeah the last two were BIG losses and an embarrassment, but i'm still hoping they can pull it together for the remainder of their games.   :xfinger: Maybe I'm just naiive.   :dontknow:

There is supposed to be another press conference today at 5:15 here, 4:15 where you are. And I have read some news articles on what Callahan has said and boy, does it sound like he is scared!!! Have you seen those yet or would you like me to post them?

That would be great if you could post them. My husband and I don't have cable and I'm not sure our local news will interrupt Oprah to tell us about it all.  :2funny:  Thanks for offering.   My cousin works for UNL maybe you've met her since you say you work for UNO?  Do you know many people that work in the Lincoln offices?

Hey Mel,
I got the latest scoop. You probably already know though.  According to the article I read Osborne WILL be acting as athletic director. Also...it may be temporary or it may be permanent!  WOW!! That is great news. Either way I'm sure Tom will get us back in shape.  Also the conference is moved up to 4 pm my time.  I also found a website that they are streaming it on, so i'll get to listen.    :meme:  That way if our local news doesn't interrupt Oprah I can still get the info.

We'll see what's what at the press conference.

Here is the link to a local Omaha station that carries the live feeds and the stories that you may not get. http://www.ketv.com/index.html

Glad I read your post now, I would have missed the begining of the press conference!! Thanks! That is great news about Osborn. I hope he does stay. I heard on the radio on the way home that Callahan was asked to resign and he said FU!! Probably rumor though but they did get it right about Osborn just a day early so who knows. There was also talk that the players don't want to be led by him either. Should be interesting!!

I only know a couple of people in the UNL location. Is your cousin in research? I also know a gal that just informed me she is two months pregnant and her name is Aunna.

Oh and what is up with this weeks game not being televised? Have you noticed that there are more games not televised this year? Seems strange to me.

I see the Huskers lost to the Aggies 36-14 this weekend.  In a way, I am glad.  This season is already down the toilet, so a couple more losses won't hurt us and might even help--get Callahan fired, that is.  I seriously doubt that the coach will be fired mid-season, but a totally stinkeroo season will be hard for the regents to ignore, and they will have a difficult time justifying his employment after December.

Well Jeri, They fired Solich on Tanksgiving Day right before a big game, so anything is possible. I really hope they fire Callahan too.  This is ridiculous how bad they are playing.

I remember the Solich firing well.  It was perhaps the crappiest thing the univeristy ever did to a coach, and the players were so hurt that the guy who brought them to a bowl game couldn't be there with them.  At least Solich made it to bowl games, something Callahan hasn't always managed to do.

I agree with you. Solich's firing was dirty and uncalled for.   I was just pointing out if they could do it to Solich like that, why not Callahan?   Like you said, at least Solich got us to a bowl game.  With Callahan, maybe in another 10 years we'll get back to the bowl games.    :doah:
