Title: One of those grey hair moments....
Post by: David C. on October 10, 2007, 06:26:31 PM
...brought to me courtesy of my gray (blue) haired dachshund Zeke.

Zeke jumped off the couch this morning and when he landed, he began to yelp.   "Oh #@$@#" I thought.  I was convinced that he had gone down in his back.   However, unlike most dachsies that scrunch their backs up, he was stretching his out, and when I went to initial examine him, he immediately flopped onto his back to expose his belly, which seemed odd behavior for a back injury.

I put him back in his crate to settle him down and went back to examine him a few minutes later.  I did all the tests for back problems, palpations, stretching the tail and neck, checking his pain reflexes.  Zeke checked out.   He's perfectly fine tonight, too.

I'll keep an eye on him.   My gut though, is that he stubbed a toe on landing, or may have had a muscle spasm of some sort.

Zeke!  No foolin' around with your Dad, y'hear?  No yelping and then tail wagging as if to say, "Just foolin', Dad."  Remember, that's no foolin' matter.

Gee whiz David!  That must have scared you!  You just get that sinking feeling.... One thing though I've learned with Simson's back episodes, is that a dachie with a sore back will no way flip over or lay on their backs!  Warm hugs and kisses for the Z's

His nails are really long right now.  They are getting trimmed on Saturday.   It looks like when he jumps, his nails are getting caught in the carpet, and his forward momentum is causing him to stub his toes.

Ouch!  But I guess a stubbed toe is the lesser of two evils!  Just a few new gray hairs David?   :doah:

Ya know, I always had a hard time wif stairs.  When I came down, my back legs would get goin' too fast an' da next thing I knew dey were ahead o my head an' den I was head over heels an' I don' mean in love!

DEN. . .  one time I had to spend time givin' da kids better TV reception and wear a satellite around my neck.  Every time I tried to go upstairs, I would jump up da stairs an' da satellite would get caught on da riser and I would flip over backwards an' haf to start all over again!  Auntie Karen always waited until I stood up and shook it off an' dan she would laff 'til she had to pee.

She ALWAYS does dat.  What is her deal??

Guinnes, da butt of da joke
