Title: Does this make sense to you???
Post by: doxielady5569128 on October 08, 2007, 10:12:45 AM
Ok...I have been having ear pain for a few weeks and a headache every day.   The ear pain was not severe and not constant.  I figured, maybe I just have wax in my ears.   No big deal.  Also the headache, i usually get one for a few weeks at a time and it wasn't a migraine, so again, I thought nothing of it.  I was feeling very tired also even though I have been getting 8-9 hours of sleep every night. Well, I finally gave in and went to the doctor today to get my ears cleaned.   The doctor looked in my ears and said they were pretty clean but were infected.   Also she found out i have a very bad sinus infection.  I have both chronic ear infection and chronic sinus troubles, but it didn't feel that painful to me.  Maybe I'm just immune to the pain now???? :dontknow:

Anyway...she gave me a nasal spray and an antibiotic both to treat my infections.   The side effects for both medications are a severe throbbing headache and upset stomach.  If I came to the doctor for a headache in the first place, why would I want a medication to make that worse????   Doesn't make sense to me, maybe one of you can figure it out.   Also both cause sleeplessness as well, um....I suffer from insomnia off and on, since I'm at risk for not sleeping anyway, couldn't they have picked a better medication for me??

Hi fellow Nebraskan!! Sounds like you need a different antibiotic. I get some bad reactions myself to some as well so it is hard to find the right one that will work for me. If you have been on them for a couple days with no improvement I would think the doctor would change to a different kind. I constantly have fluid in my ears and I was told to take sudafed to help relieve the pain and fluid. Have you tried that? I am sure curious to hear what the reasons are for giving  you that kind of meds when you are already having the symptoms that the meds cause. How new is this doctor for you? I work in the med center and have never heard of doctors that don't pay attention to your symptoms. I do sympathise with you though. Constant headaches are  the worst!!!

I actually start taking the meds tonight.  So...I'm not sure if I will for sure get those side effects. But, I always look up what the side effects for each medication i get are before I take the first dose.  If I feel uncomfortable taking it, I go back to the dr. and ask theto give me something different.  Hopefully, I won't get the side effects, but we'll see.  Yes, i have tried the sudafed, but have had allergies, ect...so long that it really isn't very effective for me anymore.

I got to the same point myself. Nothing really works on me anymore. Well I wish you luck.  Oh have you tried Clariton? That worked for me but the same problem after a while it didn't work anymore. I hope you start feeling better soon. Sounds like you have had a rough couple of weeks. I have been meaning to post to you about Porky. He and my Tuttle could be twins!! They both have the same problems. The bumps, upset tummy, the whole thing. And of course the look alike. I too have people think he is still a puppy. And I think they are the same age. Going on three.

Take care of yourself and keep us posted. I will sending major rays to you.

Mel,
Yes, I have literally tried and taken every kind of allergy medication on the market.   Claritin did work for me as well for about a year.  I actually don't feel too bad, just wiped out, so I should bounce back pretty quick.

I didn't realize you little guy was almost three also!   When is his birthday?  Porky's is April 9, 2005.   That is pretty sad that your little guy has the problems like Porky.   I hate seeing them feeling icky.

Totally off topic here, but did you watch the husker game saturday?  Wow...what a humiliating game!

I am pretty sure Tuttle was born in April of 2005 as well. I will have to look the exact date up when I get home from work. I am bad with dates.

I forgot to tell you that my vet here told me to feed some pumpkin or squash to Tuttle for the tummy problems. Baby food works the best. There is something in the squash and pumpkin that is natural for helping control the intestines. I just mix a little bit in his food and he loves it. The vet that my father goes to in Arizona aslo said the same thing for their dogs. Maybe that will help Porky. Tuttle only has the tummy problems once in a great while now. As soon as I notice something I start giving him the baby food.

Yeah, I watched the game. It was horrible. But then again they do not play well on the road. This weeks game should be a good one but it is on Pay Per View and I don't know if it will be worth it?!? Don't want to pay the money for them to play like they did this past game. Have you ever been to a game? I know it is a trek from where you live but it sure is fun there. Sea of Red is amazing.

That whole thing with the possible side-effects doesn't make sense to me.  I also suffer from allergies and sinus problems.  The only over-the-counter medication that works for me is Advil Cold and Sinus.  I don't know what I would do without it.  Gee whiz, girls, it sounds like Porky and Tuttle came from the same litter!!  You two do live fairly close to each other!!!  Right??

I haven't ever gotten to go to a game.   I have really wanted too, but it seems like we never get the money to go down there, plus the hotel stay and all of that.     I was really disappointed the did the game as pay per view only for this week. That is so aggravting.  We have a bar/restaurant that shows those for free though. But, you end up paying for dinner.  So...I guess it's not actually free.   :2funny:  My hubby and I might go check it out.  Otherwise, we'll use our trusty old radio broadcast of the game.  I really hope it is a good game this week.   We'll see.

Every once in a while I get offered free tickets. But usually we already have other plans so I don't get to go that much. Like you guys, my fiance and I will probably go to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the game if they have it. Otherwise listen on the radio. Just hope it is a good game this week. Maybe I jinxed the team. I didn't wear my Husker scrubs to work on Friday!!  :doah:

Cheryl, we live on opposite sides of the state. I have been to the western part a ton of times though. Spent my summers growing up in Scottsbluff!! I still have an aunt that lives in Sydney. How crazy would it be to find out that Porky and Tuttle came from the same litter!!!

I used to take Tylenol allergy until I found out that is what caused my blood pressure to sky rocket!! That really helped too, now I can't find anything that really works well.  :BangHead:

sounds like what I have and I'm in OZ and I've never had allergies.
Side effects of drugs are the worst case scenario and, try the meds and take the whole course as if its and infection
it will only get worse and you could damage your ear drums.
Read the side of antihistamines boxes as most  have the same base drug so try and find a diffrent one. I've a reaction ie
I sleep with even with the ones that say they do not make you sleepy. Turned out a real older type works . Also speak to
the pharmasist ( not the girls out front) sometimes they are better than the Drs as its their job to know medications.
Also if your tired etc go with the flow go to bed early as its your body telling you, plus you have had a rough trot recently
with Jnr.

Mel, That would be crazy if Porky and Tuttle were from the same litter.  We got Porky in Wyoming though so I'm not sure.   You know where Scottsbluff is??!  Wow, not many easterners do. LOL  "Western Nebraska is Kearney right???"  Cracks me up when we go east and tell people there we are from the western part of the state. Their response is always..."Oh you live in Kearney?"   Um...no..  :2funny:  I really is funny.   So...that's why we played so badly, you didn't wear you husker gear!!   Shame on you.  HA HA  Geez, we even had our flag flying all week, I can't believe you wore the wrong scrubs.  (Joking)

Roberta, Thanks for the information.  I have bee doing like you said and jsut taking  a nap and going to bed whenever my body tells me to.  I have a faulty immune system anyway so it just really taxes me when i get eventhe slightest thing.  I do plan on taking the medication and finishing it.  After having these problems my whole life, I have learned that you have to finish all the medication for it to do any good.   I usually end up taking it for a month or longer, which I hate, to fully get over the stuff.  Its aggravating.

Yep I have been all over the western part of the state. I love it out there. I didn't live near Omaha my whole life. Started off in New Mexico, then Ohio on to Michigan then over to California and now finally Nebraska. Have lots of family history in this state. Haven't been to the western side in a while though. Last time was for a funeral and haven't been back since. Too many bad vibes. My cousin Casey was killed in Sidney in 2000. I am sure you heard all about it. But I am planning a trip out that way soon. So I am looking forward to the changes around Scottsbluff.

OK I will wear my Husker scrubs on Friday. I will even make Husker cup cakes!!!  :meme:  Don't have a flag though. Have to get one I guess.

I will look up Tuttles birthdate. How freaky it will be if it is the same date. We got him here in Omaha though.

Good luck with the meds and sleep tonight. Should be nice sleeping weather though.

Nice sleeping weather?  Are you kidding me??!  Its gonna be 30 degrees here!! BRRR!!!  Last night was good sleeping weather though.  I'm sorry about your cousin Casey.   I think I do remember hearing about it actually.  I'm not certain though.  That's really neat that you guys are planning a trip out here.  To be honest, I tried to think of some changes that have happened in Scottsbluff since 2000, I haven't thought of very many.  The community college has grown a lot, the town got a few new downtown shops, and it got a Home Depot.  Other than that, I can't think of anything.  It's growth has kind of stunted lately.

Husker cupcakes sound good.   :apls:  And the Husker scrubs, definately!  As far as the flag, I don't have one personally, but was referring to the one at work that I had to put out on Saturday.

Wow, I bet its quite the culture shock coming here from Omaha.     I know when we go there my husband and I go crazy trying to take it all in.  We always have a blast when we go there.  I love zoos so you can probably guess what my favorite thing to do is when we go there.

I took the meds an hour ago and have noticed a slight headachem but nothing major.  And...it's making me sleepy.   :apls:

Great news!! Well that the meds made you sleepy. I hope you were able to sleep through the night!!!  With no additional side effects!! :thumb:

OK, so I went home and looked up Tuttle's birthdate. It is April 21, 2005. So Porky and Tuttle aren't from the same litter. But it sure does amaze me how much alike they are.

I love the zoo here myself. I am ashamed to admit though that I have only been twice and still haven't seen all of it. I really need to get out and do more!!

We aren't going to get the game this Saturday. We are afraid that it is going to be such a bad game it would be a waste!!! But I will still wear my Husker scrubs on Friday and make the cup cakes.

I am hoping to get out to Scottsbluff in the spring. I have a lot of family there that is buried in the Mitchel cemetery so I really need to get out there and pay a visit. When ever you and your husband come out this way you should look us up!! How fun would that be? We can take a trip to the zoo!!

That would be great!    :thumb:  Don't feel bad about not getting the zoo much, if you went everyday you might not appreciate it as much.    :dontknow:

I definately can't blame you for not wanting to buy the game Saturday.   We definately aren't either, unless we can find four other friends that want to chip in.  Then we would only have to pay $10 each!   We'll see.

So tell me how did the meds help last night? I am sure that it is way too soon for you to notce but I am hoping that the side effects didn't get worse.

Too bad we aren't closer, we could get the game, then have doxie races after words!! How fun would that be? OK so Mimi would just sit there and watch Tuttle and Porky wondering why they are running and not sitting there like a princess like she does but it would still be funny!!

The meds worked pretty well.  I am still sleepy from it.  I do have a slight headache but its nothing I can't deal with.

That would be so much fun to watch them play together!  It would be hilarious if Mimi did that!!  Doxie races, would be a blast!

I am so glad that you didn't get more side effects!!  :hello2:  Do you have to take them for 10 days or did they give the extra strength 3 day kind?
Title: Re: Does this make sense to you???
Post by: doxielady5569128 on October 09, 2007, 10:59:30 AM
I have to take them for ten days.  Since I have a lowered immune system I have to go back for a follow up and maybe more meds if they think I'm not over it completely.  Usually I end up being on the antibiotics for a month at a time before they do much good.   I'm hoping that won't be the case this time.

That really sucks. A month?  :doah:  Well here's hoping that you won't have to. You deserve a break in a good way right now!!  :xfinger:
