Title: Rays Needed for Looie
Post by: DeeanDave on October 03, 2007, 05:00:41 PM
I'm posting in general reading......Looie needs rays!  About 11:45 this morning, Dave called me at work and said that Looie was wheezing with a bit of a cough.  I called our vet and got an appointment for him at 3 this afternoon.  By the time I got home and got him to the vet, he was having a major difficulty breathing.  Our vet and all the techs who love Mr. Looie, listened to his insides and said he heard a lot of fluid......so it was xray time.  They took Looie to the back, took the xray and Dr. Kevin came out and talked to me.  He said at that point in time, it was a touch and go situation; however, he had given him steriods to counter the fluid; a medication for asthma, and also nitro-glycerin in his ear for his heart before he came and talked to me.  Dr. Kevin said that he was taken aback with what the xray showed.  He said he expected his lungs to be totally white (filled with fluid); they weren't; he had some air and fluid in his stomach and air pockets in his trachea.  And, his heart was huge -- which he said is very unusual for a dog Looie's age.  He said normally an enlarged heart like that would be in a much older dog.  So, we're not sure what the problem is for sure -- it could be congestive heart failure or it could be a reaction from being bit by a insect.  Looie is still at the vet hospital -- Dr. Kevin wanted to keep him there for at least four hours; I will call at 5 to get an update on him; if he is responding to the medicine and improving then he should be able to come home with medicines and watched by us.  If he doesn't show improvement, then Dr. Kevin wants him transported to the emergency pet clinic/hospital for overnight, where he can be observed at all times.  Dr. Kevin did let me go back and say goodbye to him and give him a kiss and his breathing was already much better.  He was shaking like a leaf but that is from being scared.  His eyes were bright.  So, PLEASE, can we have some rays sent Looie's way.  Thanks!  Dee, Dave & Sarge & Looie
