I got a sewing machine for my anniversary, so I made Chilie a new cover for her bed to kick-start my sewing skills. Haven't sewed in forever...in fact, the last time I used a machine was in 8th grade Home Economics class! The cover seemed like a pretty beginner thing to start off with....not too much I could screw up! Her old cover has been chewed and ripped to shreds because she likes to drag her bed all around the living room. I have no idea why she does this. Anyway, I studied how her old cover was put together and figured out how to sew it. Here are a couple pictures of Chilie in her "new and improved" bed!

Hi Beth,Kelly here in Illinois! I love the bed! What did you use to hold the top piece up if you don't mind me asking? My Mom and I want to make beds and one person suggested to use an old blind.
Chilie looks mighty comfortable in it!

Good job, I love it, it looks so cozy!!! Cute fabric, too.
Kelly, I didn't use anything to hold the top up. Her original bed came with a nylon rod hoop that ran inside the fabric, but the little piece that held it together broke, so I just took it out and threw it away. I also thought that the hoop was the reason for Chilie chewing on her bed.....it wasn't. Anyway, she doesn't seem to mind that the hoop isn't there, and she really doesn't have any trouble getting into her bed.
Oh Beth that is AWESOME! What a lucky Chilie dog! You did a great job I cant' beleive you pulled this off not having sewed since 8th grade! You must have learned it well! :thumb: (I can't sew any better than I can cook!) Chilie is adorable in there, I love the fabric you used.
Beth - great job !!! Chilie matches her "new"bed perfectly ! How funny that she drags her bed aroound.....guess she doesn't want to loose track of it - LOL !!!
What a great job, Beth! I really like the fleece you used. Chilie seems to approve also. She looks so comfortable. Now you got me thinking, but I'm not sure I could pull that off!
Thanks everyone! I'm sure my skills will improve with time. The stitching isn't the prettiest, but it got the job done. I am now going to attempt to sew Lara's halloween costume. She's going to be a witch! I bought a pattern off of Ebay, so as soon as it gets here, I'll get started. Good thing I have a whole month....I'm going to need it! Here's a picture of the costume.
fantasic Amy would love it, and hey we have another budding quilter in our midst.
