Title: Another Sleepless night..
Post by: doxielady5569128 on September 23, 2007, 04:29:22 AM
Hey everyone,
We had ourselve only all  another sleepless night in our home last night.   Things have been crazy lately!        Porky had the beginnings of diarrhea all day yesterday.  I thought nothing of it as he was acting fine.  I fed him rice only the whole day.   He seemed to be better as my  husband and I finally got to crawl into bed at midnight this morning.

Porky laid down in his bed next to ours.  Should have been a clue he wasn't feeling so great.   :doah:   About 10 minutes later we hear him groan and EWWWW!!!!  welll i'm sure you can figure it out.   I rushed him outside so he could finish and so we could clean up.   When I lifted him up he felt warm.   I called the vet (our friend) who rushed over to check him at 1 am!    He said h wanted to take Porky into his office and run some tests.   He is suspecting that it is just a cold since Porky is sneezing and has a slight runny nose.   We are assuming the diarrhea is from all the stressful events going on right now and the vet said it should be gone by tomorrow if things stay settled down and it is in fact stress related.   All of Porky's vaccinations are up to date, which is why we are leaning towards the cold thing.   The vet said it is nothing to worry about unless Porky becomes lethrgic or gets worse diarrhea.

Porky did have a small fever so I am staying up to watch him tonight and make sure he gets LOTS of water.   The only thing i could think of that he ate was a strawberry yesterday, our houseguest fed him one as I was coming downstairs. I instructed her that Porky cannot have people food and she apologized.   I don't think the strawberry would be causing this would it?    If you have any ideas let me know.   Porky's fever has broken and he is sleeping right now.   I'll keep you posted.    :ambulance:

I am glad his fever broke.  You poor guys....you have really had it lately.  It could be stress related because our babies pick up things from us; the good and the bad vibrations we give off.  Sometimes if we are stressed, they get stressed.  But it also could be a cold since he is sneezing and has a runny nose.  We are praying things settle down for you  !!!!!.  Poor Porky....my two babies send their love and prayers too!!!  Please keep us posted...... :comfort: :comfort: :comfort:

Wow! You guys sure have been put through a lot lately! I didn't know dogs get colds. I've never noticed mine get one. Maybe I should pay more attention? I sure wish I had a friend like yours that was a vet. What kind of tests did he run? I'd like to know so I can suggest them to my vet if my girls ever get those symptoms.

We won't have the results of his stool sample or his blood tests back until Monday.   Those tests were taken to rule out some other kind of infection or illness in Porky.   We had a bad round of canine colds/influenza last year in our area and it has started up again.   So...that's why the vet is assuming Porky has that.  He is presenting many of the symptoms of canine influenza.   However, if that is indeed what he has it is a mild case. Thank God!

Porky is still not feeling well this morning.  He has had to rush out every two hours on the dot to relieve himself.   The vet spoke to me again this morning and said that if he is still not well we MUST bring him in on Monday and decide what to do from there.   I am having trouble getting Porky to drink water so my hubby and i have had to sit down on the kitchen floor with Porky and give him water using a medicine dropper.    I am going to the store to buy a big jug of bleach and I'm going to bleach his crate and our back patio.

If anyone has any ideas how to stop his diarrhea that woud be VERY helpful.   Poor little guy can't go to his bed or his crate they are both soiled.   He doesn't want to be held, but I have to watch him and run as soon as he gives me the signal to get outside, or we don't make it in time.   I really hope he feels better soon.   He does want to play so that is a good sign, but his meanie humom won't let him.

Good idea. Thanks!   His tummy seems to be a bit better as he has three almost four hours without having to  run outside.  Our vet said we could try a very small amount of kaopectate and see if that helps.   Porky was able to get  some rest this afternoon and has held own some rice and water.  Hopefully this is over soon!  :xfinger:
