Title: Okay...we now have a semi-permanent house guest!
Post by: doxielady5569128 on September 21, 2007, 10:51:06 AM
I am so angry right now I could spit!   :cussing:  The doctors in the mental ward of our hospital let our friend's roommate out yesterday afternoon.  She was supposed to stay for a minimum of one month, but she somehow convinced them that she was sane enough to go home.  Now, sheis calling leaving threatening messages on my friend's voicemail, and trying to find our home so she can come and "kill us all"  Sound sane to you??   :verdict:  Our friend is not going home until her roommate is completely moved out and the locks on their shared apartment are changed.   This could take weeks.   :doah:

We are going in with her this morning to file a protection order against this other girl.  It is pretty sad that we had to have her drive her car to the church last night and give her a ride back, so her roommate wouldn't be able to find her!   This is such a nightmare!!

It IS a nightmare.  Be sure to get on record her threats and ask if they can do any additional drive by's to your house.  As them too if there is anything you can possibly do to get her picked back up.  Sounds very scary -

<  Now, she is calling leaving threatening messages on my friend's voicemail, and trying to find our home so she can come and "kill us all"  >

My understanding is that a person can be involuntarily committed to a psych facility if they are a danger to themselves, or a danger to others. Sounds like she fits the latter classification. Is there someone you can get advise from - a social worker, law enforcement, lawyer, someone?

Good luck - I know this is not easy!!

OMG, this is HORRIBLY FRIGHTENING!!!........and NO NO NO....her roommate is NOT SANE :idiot: and whomever let her out of the mental facility SHOULD BE SHOT!!!!!!!!!!....Please report the threats to the police and see what can be done to have her picked up again and hospitalized......if you are in fear for your lives, I believe the police will do drive bys to your house just as Barb said.  Is there any way your friend could get out of town to a secret place for awhile??????  BE CAREFUL, this is a VERY SERIOUS SITUATION!!!

Although your advce is great about getting her committed against her will, we already tried that route.  It got us nowhere.  We contacted the police and they took all knives, ect...from the house and then took her t the hospital.  That's how she got there the first time.  Here's a example of the messages she has been leaving.

"Thanks to you I can't keep my dog anymore and have to move!  I hate you!  I hope you....um...oh...nevermind....ha ha ( evil laugh)."

message right after the first one...."Oh, I was just calling to tell you I'm really sorry I know you are just being a good friend and you love me that's why you are trying to get me help. Thank you so much.  Oh, and have a nice day!"

We're assuming he second message was left while the doctor's were watcing her.     :dontknow:

We are working on gettting a protection order for our friend.  Her landlord has changed the locks and all of her roommate's things are moved out.   She is however still a danger as she is running free and not taking her medication.     Our friend is staying at another friend's house tonight to give us a "break" from all the drama.

Also an update on my sister-in-law, she was released from the hospital last night and seems to be doing better.   Her mind is still out of whack, but she is no longer a threat to herself.  She lives in a facility where people keep an eye on her, so we know she's safe and can get help if she needs it.

Hopefully by next month, we will have that protection order in place and we can start getting our lives back.   This roommate of my friend's does NOT know where we live or what cars we drive so we should be okay.  We are going to have our friend continue to park at the church when she is over though.

DON'T THINK A PROTECTION ORDER WILL KEEP YOU SAFE!  A mentally ill person won't be able to process the consequences of violating an order.

Always LOCK YOUR DOORS AND WINDOWS.  KEEP A CORDELSS PHONE WITH YOU A HOME ALWAYS!!  IF SHE SHOWS UP, CALL 911, TELL THEM THE WOMAN IS THREATENING YOUR LIFE AND SHE HS A HISTORY OF MENTAL ILLNESS.  DO THE POLICE TAKE A LONG TIME TO GET THERE?  TELL THE DISPATCHER YOU CAN'T SEE WHAT SHE'S CARRYING IN HER HANDS - THAT WILL KICK UP THE RESPONSE TIME.

Once you have an order, take a copy of it and a photo of her and mail it to every neighbor.  Tell them if they see her around the house, they must call 911.  This a potentially deadly situation!!  Don't expec the authorities to help before - they always react, but rarely act proactively!  ood luck and some safety rays from Baltimore.

Karen,
Thanks for yor concern.  I agree that any times protection orders do not work and policetake to long to get there.  We are blessed however to live in small town where the response time is vey quick.    We live literally one block from th hospital so there is always at least ine police officer close by to our home.  We see them drive by quite oten.   We also have them keeping an eye on our home for us.

The girl that is making these threats is very tiny.  We could easily overpower her if need be.   We were mainl concerned about our friend sleeping in the house with her  Once she woke up to the roommate standing over her with a grin on her face holding a pillow.     Our main concern was to get her out of there!   We have full confidence now that the roommate is moved out and the locks have been changed, ect...that our friend will be safe.  We are waiting for that protection order still and the poice are monitoring her house to see if the girl comes back.

Thank you to everyone for your concerns and well wishes!   It means a lot to us!!

Good luck hope she does something to get herself locked up you just never know what they will do at anytime or anywhere. Its really sad that aloot of people with mental illness will not stay on their medications they can't understand the medications will help them.
