Title: Loki feeling puny and a question or two
Post by: Leslie on September 18, 2007, 10:44:21 AM
Got the kidz up this morning and they went out to go potty BUT then Loki did not come running for her chow.  She did come over when called and then ate and then went out and pooped.  Then the little booger came in and acted funny, wouldn't get up, started to shiver and I'm thinking; "uh, oh, BACK!!!"

Put in a call to the vet to see if I could give Metacam with her antihistimine and waited and watched.  Then the little pooper vomits, stretches and and sez:  "ok, bedder now, can I have another breakfast?"

I HATE it when ya don't know what's wrong becasue they can't talk!!!!!!!! She looked right as rain (if a little hungry) when I left for work.  Will update if anything serious develops but she has full range of motion and did not sit down when I put a hand on her butt.

This is one of the tests MD told us to determine if the spine is involved.  The other one is to lift a rear leg and evaluate if dog puts foot back on the floor normally when released.

Are there other, simple tests to determine if there is spine pain if dogger is otherwise not exhibiting severe pain symptoms?

Another way is to put one hand under their belly and then put slight pressure on either side of their spinal cord and run your fingers they length of their spinal cord. If their back is bothering them at a certain point they will tighten their stomach. This is one of the tests the neurologist did on Penny. Hope everything is fine with Loki and it was just a fluke she wasn't feeling well  :bandaid:!

I hope Loki just had a little upset stomach and will be fine.  Let us know how she is this evening.  Yes, its scary when they act out of sorts.

Poor Loki - nothing worse than throwing up - hope it was just a tummy upset and sending rays it is in no way related to her back !!!

Last Thursday, I came home from work and could tell Rudy wasn't feeling himself.  He didn't go nuts when I came in and didn't bark for the walk in the door treat.  He was restless all evening and FINALLY about 11:30 he threw up.  He still couldn't get comfortable, so I made some white rice and he ate some and slurped up the rice water.  Finally about 2 he settled down and went to sleep.  At 6 the next morning, he was ready to play and eat !!!  He got rice again and then that night rice with a little kibble in it - but he seemed fine.  Of course, until he threw up, I followed him everywhere and kept touching him all over.  I was almost certain it wasn't his back, because he was not doing the crunched up walk, and no shivering.

Guess they get puny just like we do.....

Keep us updated on Loki !

Sending rays for Loki.  Hopefully its just something the lil bugger got into that upset her tummy.  With Franky, the Dr showed us the foot technique similar to what you described.  I know that they can express pain by being "shakey" or extra grumpy.
Hope she's doing better   :xfinger:    :bandaid:

Loki all beddah.  But she tonight SPIT OUT A PIECE OF CHEESE.  Weird.  Call the doxie  :ambulance:

No back symptoms.  Chalk it up to a sqiffy tummy and a cold wet morning.

Thanks, ya'll for the rays.

Also lifting the tail to a vertical position to see if they react, same with tilting their head back.   The fingers on the spine seems to be the best one, though.

Rays to Loki!

Loki full of P*** & vinegar this morning.

After breakfast, while I was getting ready for work, she trotted down the hallway with a huge drawing that my niece made. (HEY!  The dawg ate my homework!)  She was so pleased to have scored a GIANT piece of paper to eat and proceeded to tell me how unhappy she was when I took it from her. So ya know she's beddah.
