I opened up the newspaper this morning and read the front page headline. I literally dropped my coffee mug on the porch and it shattered into bits. One of our hometown "boys" has died! He was on a training mission in when his helicopter crashed killing him and 4 other soldiers. This man was in my sister's class in high school and his little sister was only two years younger than myself and in girl scouts with me. I didn't know him real well, but living in a small town, I knew who he was ad watched him grow up with us in elementary school and high school.
I had heard about the crash on the news, but had no idea he was on it. I am so very sad for his mom, dad, brother and sister. He was supposed to be a best man or his brother's wedding in three weeks. His little sister is away from home and a senior in college this year. It must be so hard to be there all alone. They are a strong family and the entire community is standing behind them an supporting them. Most likely, the entire town will show up for his funeral! I am certain many of his former classmates will attend as he was a very kind and well-liked man.
I'm sure his family will need lots of support and prayers for a long time to come.
How terrible. There is nothing I can say, being connected to the military ourselves we are glad for every day we have. We also thank God for those brave Heroes who choose to serve and protect us. They will never be forgotten.
This is horribly sad... I will be sending rays and prayers from all of us to his family and all that knew him.... :comfort: :pray: :heart:
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. It is through the sacrifices of people like Scott that we're able to enjoy the freedom and peace that we have in this country.
I don't know if there is a "Rainbow Bridge" for hoomans, but as a member of the 101st Airborne, I know there is certainly no finer "Band of Brothers" looking after him upstairs.
That is so sad. But this whole war thing is tragic - so many lost lives. Sending rays to the family and you and all his friends.
