I guess Zeke heard about his buddies Merlin and Beau Leakey in Baltimore having a day on the town, so he thought he would give it a try. Zeke managed to find a spot at the fence gate that he could squeeze through and headed out into the world.
Zora dutifully came back into the house. Margie started looking for him. He wasn't in the backyard, and he wasn't in the house. As Dr. Sherlock Holmes Leakey would say "if you rule out all the obvious possibilities, then the only thing possible is the one that isn't obvious". This left the outside world. Zeke even barked a couple times just to confuse us.
Thankfully, Zeke's exploring seems to have only taken him around to the front yard (we think...for all we know he did some more exploring). His pinpoint navigation planted him on the front step when he wanted to come back in.
...and I went and fixed the damaged section of fence so he'll stay in the backyard.

I had to keep a close eye on Zeke when he was at our house. On one side of our yard, the fence slats are spaced wider than on the back or other side. To complicate matters, our neighborhood has LOTS of rabbits running around, and Zeke wanted one of those rabbits BAD! The first time he spotted a bunny, it ran through the side of the fence where the gaps are wider for safety, and Zeke was determined to go after it. I think he could have made it if I wasn't there to stop him! Fortunately, I usually go outside with the dogs to make sure everyone does his or her business, so I don't think the Zs were ever in the yard alone.
Zora, being much smaller than Zeke, could have definitely gone through the fence. But as she demonstrated during Zeke's recent escape, she is a good girl and will not break through the fence.
Glad he didn't get too far from home!!
Wow...glad Zeke is back home safe and sound!!!
