I found this site for giving over-the-counter medications to your pet.

It says to use 1 tablespoon Hydrogen Peroxide per 10 lbs. of dog, up to three times at 10 minute intervals until vomiting occurs. The emergency vet I talked to said to give one dose, and if vomiting didn't occur within 5 minutes to give another dose.
I would say we got a good two tablespoons into Alex first round. And maybe the same for the second and third doses. I wasn't measuring, I was more concerned with just getting enough of it in him. Even with my haphazard method of measuring the doses, Alex didn't have any bad reactions to it except it took a day or so to get his system back in balance.
After the excitement was over with, I called the emergency vet back and told them we got results. I asked about feeding and water. She said to give just a little bit of water (1/4) cup at first, then a little more ten minutes later. The idea was to not let the dog gulp it down initially. After about 30 minutes it was okay to let Alex have access to his water bowl. She also said to feed him 1/2 his ration of food in the evening, and his regular kibble was okay. I fed him white rice instead, I've had good luck with rice getting their systems normalized after being sick.
Thanks for the info Patty - I am going to print out and put in my 3 ring binder of doggie "stuff" !
This is great info Patty! I am going to print it out as well and send the site to everyone I know that has dogs. We can never be too prepared. I always say if your prepared then disasters won't happen. I am so glad you knew what to do. We all need to be able to think fast on our feet.
Hi Mimismom............I didn't really know what to do, but I looked on the back of the box of D-Con and it said if an animal eats it, call a vet immediately. So I found the nearest emergency vet and did exactly what they told me to do. Thank God it worked on Alex, I am sure he had enough poison in him to kill him had I not known he had eaten the stuff. My folks and sister said I handled it very well. I never did cry, I just knew I had to get that stuff out of Alex if I wanted to save his life. It helped that Alex wasn't convulsing or passed out, it kept me from panicking. Alex was acting "normal" but inside he was in a lot of danger. Thanks for the pat on the back.
Another good hint is too buy a medicine syringe like you get for giving liquid medicine to toddlers and keep it for emergencies like what happened to Alex the other day. That's the only thing that worked for me to get the peroxide down Porky's throat when he ate the moth bar. The one I have is like a syringe that you give a injection with but it has no needle in it.
As Zack can attest to a turkey baster will also work in a pinch. It got so he knew what was coming if mom put him in the tub and the I climbed in with the turkey baster in my hand. If your dog is like Zack and you are by yourself you might only be able to get it in the first time you give it to him so make sure you get what you need in the first attempt. One dose normally got it all up and then he was good till the next time. Don't over do it though there can be some side effects from too much. I can't remember what they are though.
Another thing that will work to make them throw up is ordinary table salt. I had to use it on him at a dog show when he ate a show lead. I think the dose was a good tsp or so. I will have to check it out. I just grabbed the container board morton's table top salt shaker and put it on pour and held his mouth open and poured till it looked right. He was not happy with me after that - used to the peroxide but never expected the salt shaker. I think that was messier because it was foaming all over till he got it out of his system and of course he had to keep shaking his head. All over mom.
We normally always have salt around so in a pinch remember it. If I find the amount I will add it to this.
Merion & the ZZ's
We use a salt bolus inplace of the hydrogen peroxide, and it has the same effect, have not had to use in in a long while............
