Mom got very excited about my new friend although I'm not sure why. We were taking our daily walk at the middle school and I saw my little buddy so I stopped to sniff his nose. Mom didn't know what it was so she came over to see who I was visitin' with and all of a sudden she was doing her Mommy Freakout Dance and I was being pulled thru the air!
She said it was some guy named BAT and he was laying there in broad daylight, not movin'. She said he might have babies! Or maybe it was rabies, it was hard to understand what she said beings she was having a hard time breathin' and all. She scooped me up and wiped of my nose and mouth making "fyoo fyoo" noises while she did it. Then she carefully touched BAT with the toe of her shoe but he didn't move. I think he was sleepin' REAL deep. Mommy was awfully white.
I only sniffed him and I do have my babies shot but she is still freaked out. She says the bright side is, as much as she worries about the amount of water I drink, if I do catch his babies, she says she can at least enjoy the 5 minutes of normal water consumption I'll do between drinking too much and fearing it! I don't get it but if it makes Mommy happy....
Gotta go snarf stuff up off the driveway now so I can make Mommy dance some more!
DeeDee years ago the kids nextdoor were playing with a bat my husband put welding gloves on picked it up put it in a coffee can I called Animal control they did come out and pick it up.Was funny the guy from Animal control first put it in the cab of the truck and got in then thought better of it gotout put it in one of the cages in back.Do you know if it was dead or not???? I think it is unusual for them to be out during the day???? Makes you really wonder about why it was out you might want to ask your vet about it.

Zora here...isn't it funny when our hoomans take our friends away. I was playing nice with some ferrets, but Zeke was barking his fool head off and tried to eat them. So what happened? They put the ferrets away so neither one of us could play, even though I was being nice.
We have bats, too, but we haven't gotten to see them up close. Dad has on some of his night-rides through the parks. One flew by so close he felt the wind from it and then it hit the next rider's helmet. Dad says bats are like mice with wings, and mice are like miniature ferrets, right? So that must mean they are nice to play with.
Yikes Hallie Girl! You gave your mama a BIG scare!
Dee Dee...that is really frightening. I would have flipped out a bit myself! Has your heartrate returned to normal?
Skeeter here. We have bats, too! We all like to go outside with Mommy and Daddy at dusk and watch the bats flying around. Usually they don't get close, but one evening a bat kept flying real close in front of Mommy. She thought it was so neat she made Daddy come out to see!
You are very lucky to make friends with the bat. So far our bats have never stayed on the ground to wait for us!
Oh my! I think I would have reacted the same way you did, DD!
Sorry, but I have to laugh a little when I imagine you doing your Freakout Dance. :2funny:
Well, great! Between the BAT and chicken jerky treats I sent her, she should be A-OK! Luckily, she's had her shots and I'm guessing (OK, praying!) the little bit of the treats didn't hurt her? :BangHead:
PapBouv, I think they are really cute little guys, just don't like the idea of the diseases they might be carrying. Kind of unsettling to find one in broad daylight like that isn't it! (where were my welding gloves when I neede them! ). He wasn't only merely dead...but really, most sincerely dead. Light as a feather and not moving but wasn't at all deteriorated.
Moms and Dads are funny that way Zora! They just don't know what good fun is sometimes. :thinik: Good gads David, just the thought of a bat ricocheting off your helmets gives me the shivers! One landed on my head once, I was wearing a scarf, I grabbed him and tried to fling him off but he had a good hold of my scarf and wasn't budging. As I recall both he and the scarf ended up being flung across the horse pasture.
LOL Terri, I am just glad that Hallie is not an aggressive greeter, and was being very dainty and sniffing around his face. It all happened within seconds and not trying to fit him into her mouth!
Oooh Skeeter I"ll bet that is good neck exercise, watching the bats go back and forth. We like watching them fly around too, we got to see some at a friends the other night (we were watching shooting stars and suddenly a big black shape swooped in front of us and for a second we all thought it was a UFO). We never have seen one at our house though you guys are lucky.
LOL Beth I have that dance down to a "T" now. I'll bet many of us here do!
ROTFL Delia!! Those jerkeys weren't your fault, the dang bag AND the web site do not say where they were made so there is no way to know. I just happened across the info while googling they had ingredients from China. We would have had them even if you hadn't sent them we used to get them a lot. I am going to start making her treats these recalls are getting ridiculous. No the treats didn't hurt her at all and she's eaten about 1/4 of the bag, we used them for training. Still I will toss them just to be safe.
I did have her to the vet today who didn't think there should be any problem with the BAT.
Bats are suppose to have a bad rep actually suppose to be good to get rid of bugs but they still carry Rabies that is enough for me to be scared of them. Glad to hear the vet thought everything was OK rather get a second opinion from a vet just to be on the safe side since Rabies is a terrible disease.
Papbouv
Eeeeeek - Hallie !!!! Stay away from dem things !
Well, clearly you are confused!
If you've been spayed, you can't get babies!
love,
Roscoe, the Handsome One!
