Boone here. My mommy stuck me in da crate, and says I can't come out because Fella won't leave me alone! I am a good boy. This isn't fair!
Jeri here. Last night I noticed that Boone was trying to poop every time he went outside, and he scooted down the hill. This morning, he scooted on the carpet and left a stinky brown trail about 7 feet long. I checked his rear, and oh my gosh! His anal sacs are swollen and his entire rear end is red! Poor little guy is miserable! To make matters worse, Fella is very interested and keeps slurping his butthole! I put Boone is the crate so he can get some peace. I am not sure when this sarted, but I gave Boone a bath Tuesday evening because he had a messy bm that got all over his rear, and noticed nothing amiss at that time.
Boone has an appointment with the vet at 3 pm. This will be the second vet visit for us this week! Monday morning Fella was covered with hives! He also had some lesions similar to those Poldie and Skeeter would get from allergies. The vet wasn't too concerned with the hives, but he said the lesions looked like a staff infection. I had my doubts and thought the cause was allergies, but perhaps he picked up a secondary infection in the broken skin. I should have trusted Dr. Goode, because Fella's skin is now almost clear!

Boone is feeling a bit better, and I think the smellies are gone because Fella is leaving him alone. Boone had his anal sacs expressed, but one was so blocked that the vet couldn't get a thing to come out of it. Additionally, it looked like it was a bout to absess, so we decided to have the vet lance it rather than wait for the pain and mess of absess. Boone is such a little sweetie that he sat still for the entire thing, and thing wagged his tail at the vet afterwards. He will be on antibiotics for about 10 days, and I have to clean the lanced area with hydrogen peroxide daily. I checked him last night at bedtime, and the swelling is way down and the redness is gone.
Oh poor Boone ! Sending rays that they are able to get them expressed and he feels much better ! Let us know !

Wow...poor Boone.... :ambulance:Zoe has problems with her anal sacs (so far her brother hasn't had any problems in that area)...it's okay Boone....get that butt squeeze over with and you will feel good as new!!!!!...Glad Fella is on the mend....You babies get well real soon....hugs and kisses from Zoe and Winston and their momma.....

Boone dis is Sam I feel your pain. I used to have problems with my anal glands and had 2 abscesses that the vet had to take care of. Momma decided the best way to take care of that was to take me and have my glands expressed every 4 to 6 weeks and no more problems. Hope you feel better weal soon.
Glad to hear Boonie is doing better! I typically express the Zs anal glands every 4 - 6 weeks, or when I see them scooting their butts a lot. I do the expressing myself. It can be a stinky and messy job, but it is fairly easy. Of the four dachshunds that I've expressed anal glands on, each one of them has been different in color, texture and force that it comes out when expressed.
Dear Boone, dis is da Maddewoo. I sumtimes get the butt scoots too and den my mommy and papa take me to da gwoomer for butt squeezes in da baftub. I must get dat yucky stuff in my booty a lot cuz I have to go to da gwoomer about every 3 weeks. AND HE CHOPS MY TOES TOO! I hope you is feeling bettah. Slurps to you,
