We were invited to a pool party, and dachsies were allowed in da water! Skeeter wanted nuttin' doing with da water, but Mommy sez Boone and Fella took un-authorized swims! After they went in, they found it wasn't as much fun as they thought it would be! Den after dat, Fella got Mommy's pants real muddy. They are in da washer now, but she don't know if da mud will come out! Also after da pool, Granny wanted to hold Boone, and da crazy lady didn't eben care dat he was wet!
Jeri here. The Manassas-Fairfax August Meet Up was at a house with a pool. Boone was real hot, so I dipped him in the pool to cool him. As I was getting Boone out of the pool and helping him dry a bit, someone said, "the big dog's in the pool." Sure enough, Fella had jumped in and was cutting through the water like a long, furry, red torpedo! He was swimming great until he reached the wall, and is body went from horizontal to vertical and then down! I reached in and pulled him out before his nose and mouth went under! Afterwards he played in the yard, barked at the golfers behind the fence as they teed off, and jumped all over me and got more muddy paw prints in my light colored capris than I can count! Gee, I hope the mud comes out!
I was a little worried about Fella because he is sometimes mean to Skeeter and barked and growled at the on the way over. At the party he was very social and didn't start any trouble. One dog tried to get in his face and Fella gave a warning growl, but he didn't start it and made no move to hurt anybody (he never tried to hurt Skeeter either). I think he is Bow Wow ready.
Some of the dogs liked being placed on rafts and pulled gently across the pool by the boys in the pool. I thought Boone would like this, and he really seemed to love his first raft ride. The second ride didn't go according to plan. He hopped off the raft and into the water. You would think that with his excess fat he would be pretty bouyant, but this is not the case. He sank like a stone. Actually, he was doing a fair job of swimming and made it to the side of the pool near me, but when I reached in to get him, he would try to roll over on his back. Since dogs are NOT built for the back stroke, he started going under. This happened three times before I successfully got him out. His nose was above water the whole time, but he coughed twice after he got out and may have swallowed just a little water. It was only two coughs, so I don't think it bothered him much.
Brooke hosted the party. As you may recall, when she gave her dog, Chance, a party earlier this year, her Granny loved holding Boone in her lap pretty much the entire time. Granny didn't join the party this time because she recently had a pacemaker put in. Brooke says she is doing well but wasn't up to joining the party today. However, she did tell Brooke's mom that she wanted someone to bring Boone to her. Brooke's mom did come for Boone AFTER the swim! I warned her that he was still wet, but she said that Granny wouldn't care. I guess you could say that Granny couldn't come to the pool party, so Brooke's mom and Boone took the party to her!
Skeeter, being the sensible type, wanted nothing to do with the water. She did, however, break away from Kevin for brief periods and socialized a bit, which is great for her!
Kevin and the dogs are wiped out right now and taking naps. Looks like I'll have a peaceful afternoon!

I bet pool parties are lots of fun!! Auntie Karen's very first dog was an Irish Setter named Rebecca who loved to chase tennis balls in da base pool! "Course, Auntie Karen was da lifeguard, so dat's how Becky got into da pool to begin wit'!
Maybe someday when da tenants move, we can get a pool just for Da Herd! :hello2:
