Title: Are they really half-siblings?
Post by: David C. on August 12, 2007, 10:41:26 AM
We dropped the Zs off this morning at a friend's house who is going to watch them while we go to the beach for a few days.   They have a golden retriever that was overly enthusiastic and initially mistook Zora for a squirrel.  Fortunately, they seemed to have straightened that out, but the golden doesn't seem to realize how much bigger she is than Zora.

Our friends also have ferrets, which immediately attracted the Zs attention.  The ferrets, curious in their own right, came to the edge of the cage to check out these unusual looking characters peering in on them.   On one side was Zeke, barking his fool head off and trying to eat the ferrets, but only ended up chewing bars.   On the opposite side was Zora, who was giving the ferrets kisses when they poked their noses those the cage.   Two half-siblings from consecutive litters, two completely different reactions.   I guess this pretty much rules Zora out as any kind of huntress!

I love ferret visits at the pet store!

Whenever I take Guinness, I put him in a shopping cart, which puts him just at ferret cage height.  I LOVE how he stretches up on his hind legs to sniff the ferrets, who stretch up on THEIR hind legs to sniff him.

It's like a meeting of distant cousins.  But hey, wasn't the dachshund bred (or designed, maybe) to chase ferrets, stoats, and other tunnelling mammals?

Either way it's cute to watch!
