Title: Lucy's check up and Berman's seizure (ARGH!)
Post by: Jenny G on July 30, 2007, 10:22:52 AM
Lucy had her annual check up and shots on Saturday and she was PERFECT!  The only time she was fussy was when she had to get on the scale (a CAT scale, mind you!), but what girl doesn't get fussy when she has to get on a scale?!?!  Honestly, she was  like a statue the rest of the visit!  She's down 2 1/2 lbs which is GREAT!  :thumb: I think supervising their feedings has really helped.  She used to polish off her meals in about 5 seconds flat, then head over the Berman's dish.  Now I make sure she stays away from finicky-eater-Berman's dish until he can finish.  Hopefully, Berman's weight is up a bit (maybe a 1/2 lb or so) when we go for his check up next month.  So of course, they had a McDonald's McGriddle sandwich for breakfast to celebrate Lucy's super-duper vet visit.

Berman had another seizure last night.  I checked his seizure log and the last one was on April 29.  This one lasted about 5 minutes (the one in April was 7 minutes - his longest so far).  I think he knows when it's about to happen.  He was laying on one end of the couch and I was on the other reading a magazine.  He all of a sudden jumped up, ran over to me and stuck his head between my back and the couch cushion.  I turned around and the seizure started.  He didn't throw up this time, but he did "cry" - big tears just rolling down his little face - so sad!  Of course, the whole time I was trying to calm him down and create a soothing environment, Lucy is up in the window barking her head off at everything outside! ARGH!  I could've rang her little neck!  :cussing: At the very end of the seizure, Berman took a deep breath then shook it off (like he was shaking after getting wet or when I smother him with smoochies). Then he was fine!  He gave me lots and lots of kisses and started running around playing.  :hello2: I think he's totally aware of my presense when he's having these things.  He sticks his tongue out a lot like he's trying to kiss me.

Anyway, I think the seizures are still too far between and not intense enough to subject him to a lifetime of medication.

Good job Lucy - 2 1/2 lbs is GREAT !!!  Poor Berman...... I bet it breaks your heart.  3 months though since the last one.... are you able to figure out any connection, or trigger?  Sounds like you are doing exactly what you need to do to get him through them.  Smoochies to both kids !

The only connection is that they all happen after my vet's normal hours! Seems that's when my kids get sick - is when I have to pay double to take them to the pet ER!  :doah:

Way to go, Lucy grrrrrrrl.  And little Berman, smoochies to you, sweetie pie.  The only thing that came to mind was, did you take him to the vet 3 months ago when he had his last seizure.  Could the vet visit BEFORE create such stress for him AFTER that he seizes?  Probably not, but just a thought.  Give him lots of lovin's from me, okay.

Way to go Lucy!!!  Glad you had a PERFECT checkup!!  We also hope that Berman is feelng back to normal.
That is an idea bout the vet visit maybe upsetting him enough that he has a seizure.  I am trying to think of anything else that might be a trigger.   :dontknow:

Yea for Lucy being down 2 1/2 pounds!  :hello2: Cookie hates the scale too.
Sorry about Berman having another seizure. :sad7:  I am glad you are able to comfort him and hopefully they won't happen again.  :xfinger:
