A friend of mine has recently been adopted by a homeless dog who wandered into her yard....
She tried to find the owner and ran an ad in the paper for 3 weeks with no answer so she is planning on keeping the dog...
Since she doesn't know if the dog has had her shots can she take her to the vet and have them give them anyway or will it hurt the dog?
Unless it's a puppy, there's generally no problem giving immunizations. I think they give a one-year vaccine for rabies versus a three year.
Opinionated Karen :2funny:
I think that she should take it to her vet and get their opinion. If it were me I would get it vaccinated just to be sure - especially if it were going to be around other dogs.
If you have a vet;give them a call and tell of your situation, and have it checked over.
When I worked at a vet's office if there was no indication of shots being given to a dog, they were strongly suggested. If nothing else they were viewed as a booster to any previous shots.
