Title: ALASKA BOW-WOW STUFF
Post by: PattyInAK on July 24, 2007, 01:47:53 PM
Sounds like you guys are sufficiently interested, and I'm so happy.  It would be great to meet you all, and your weener dogs, but if you can't bring your dog(s), you are welcome anyway.  I went to my first bow-wow alone, but Misty joined me at the second one.  She had so much fun, and so did I.  I carried her around all week in her sherpa bag.  We even went into Crate And Barrel in Portland and no one knew I had a dog!  Misty enjoyed being carried around.  She'd stick her head out the top, and if something scared her, she'd pulled her head in, like a turtle, and keep watch thru the mesh sides of the bag.  She was such a good little traveler!

I'm sure for a lot of you, a trip to Alaska is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and you'd want to see and do as much as you can.  I know you can surf the internet for stuff, but if you are interested in anything in particular, maybe I could point you in the right direction.

As far as a time period, I was thinking July 2009, its when we usually get our best weather, but I don't know, the past two summers have been rainy.  But in Alaska, if you let the rain stop you, you wouldn't do anything.  Its really up to you guys.  The Alaska State Fair runs August 20-31 in 2009, I believe, and its a blast.  Not a big fair......think "small county fair" and thats about the size of our fair.  The food vendors are fantastic and there's a lot of Alaska stuff to buy.  I enter a bunch of stuff in the fair, so you'd get in on the sampling.

Any ideas???

Karen here:

July 22-30, 2009 would not be a good time for me, but I'll be there regardless of when you set the dates.

How do you want to do this?  Give us a time frame to invade?  Can we camp on you property?  Pottys?  Latrines?

Yes, you can camp on my property.  We have two bathrooms in the house, and there is a bathroom in Dan's shop with a toilet and shower.  He has a mop sink outside the bathroom that is good for bathing doxies.

Time frame..............I don't know, I need more input from you guys on when you could come.  I foresee you guys wanting to hang out with the doxie folks and also to go out exploring on your own.  I plan to take a week off from work.  I could do stuff with those of you who want to hang out in the local area.  We'll for sure have a grand two-day picnic at my house (one day to eat and drink, and one day to recover, and eat some more.)

The bow-wow I went to at DD's was very successful.  A few of us stayed at her house while others stayed in a nearby hotel.  We gathered at DD's every morning and set out on the planned event for the day.  It usually started at Starbucks for coffee.  We went to Mt. Rainier and Pike Street Market.  We had a big picnic one day, and some local doxie folks came for just that one day.  Everyone pitched in and made something, it was a feast!  The local paper came out and did a story on the group and took pictures.

I'm glad we have two years to work out the details!

Aww, memories!  In the second piccie of the 2001, I am 4th from the right, and Maria is 5th from the right.  I have Gretl-Angel, and Maria has Siglen-Angel(that was Siglen's infamous "fountain of pee" trip!).  With my archival shots of yesterday, you now see 4 of my 5 angel-dachsies in all.   Does anyone who wasn't there, recognize Scootersmom (Noel), Sandi and Mark (Madison's parents), Jill, Traci and Rob, or Al and his wife?   I see  DD and Delia in the 2004 - wave!  I know Delia has Ilsa - at least I think it is Ilsa-Pilsa, but who is Jill holding?

Did anybody notice in the 2004 picture:

Dachshunds looking left, dachshunds looking right, a dachshund licking Bruce's chin, two dachshunds being held in strangleholds, and right there in the middle looking her usual best is -

Miss Hallie - the camera goddess!!!

"I'm ready for my close-up, Mr. DeMille"  LOL!

OMG, I had forgotten  about Chrissie, Bruce, and Dauber!  (heheh- I thought that was you, Dee, but me and my brain burp didn't see Looie, so I thought it must be someone else!)   At DD's 2001 bowwow, we met Jill's Winston, and the venerable Mr. Puppy, but not Reka or Simon.  Oops - I did not recognize Ron and the beauteous Gretchen!  Brekke and Mocha send smoochies to Gretch!

Julia,  Looie didn't join the family until May 2005 so in 2004, Sarge was an only "fur-child"!  Dee

Yup - that's why I said I was having a "brain burp".  I am so used to Sarge and Looie, that I was looking for both furkids!

By the way, I can't believe how many times Noel tried to "rescue" Mr. Puppy from Jill!  That sweet old guy was forever being waylaid and smooched on by everyone!

Tee hee, Patty.  It was a flirtation only if you call the way most dachshunds eat, slow and polite at all times.  If those two had been human, it would have been racier than anything about Cazenova and his love life!

Remember when we were at Al's?  Misty was being so coy.  Winston was following her in the garden, and if he stopped to sniff something Misty would let out a little bark as if to say "hey Winston, I'm over here, keep coming."  It was SO cute.
And wasn't Mr. Puppy a grand old standard, I just loved him.
