Several people have alerted me to Picture.com being a rip-off and a fraud.................people's photos ending up as semi-finalists, and advance payment of books that they never receive, etc...........Thanks for all the good wishes anyway.
Kari or Barb, will you please pull my post about Neeki from yesterday. Thanks.
I'm so sorry to hear that! I removed the post for you...
What a drag! There's a scam like that from a web site called poetry.com that will publish your poem and you can get a copy of the book for only $50 or so! My kids all write poetry, and it was hard to tell them, no, honey, you are not actually "getting published."
But Neeki is our star, no matter what!
Karen
I've heard that poetry.com is run by the same outfit as picture.com
Yeah, I had the same problem. I had a picture of Porky that became a finalist, but all they wanted was money. :cussing: At first i was excited, but then when I found out the only thing they wanted, was my money, it made me angry. Supposedly i won top prize, but in order to get it, I needed to send $1000 for a trip to Vegas plus another $850 for the prize itself. Luckilly, I put no money into it.
Sorry to hear about this Patty.... That sucks.... That also happened to me with poetry.com.... I guess it was a lesson for me, and a good one at that... :verdict: :BangHead: Neeki is still beautiful though.... Maybe we should just publish our own book.... :thinik: Hugs to you....
For the record, yes poetry.com and picture.com are run by the same people. Did some research, if you call the customer service line for picture.com it tells you to get answers to most of your questions, just go to poetry.com. Also their website make reference to each other. :thinik:
Maybe all of us that got "cheated" by this company could put together something to send into the better business bureau to get them shut down. i am calling to get my picture i submitted ripped off of their site. I don't want them making money off of my photo if i get nothing in return. (i.e. a book, etc..)
That is not a bad idea..... I wish I would of thought about getting my poem off of there..... :BangHead: :cussing: It has been 6 years now... :dontknow: But, I would definately go for getting them shut down....
Unfortunately, I'm afraid, I can't report them personally because of two reasons. 1. I did not save the numerous letters they sent begging for money and 2. I never sent them money for anything myself. Maybe, I still could i'm not sure. :dontknow: Basically I need all the people that feel frauded by this company, :dontknow: to report them for them to get shut down. The better business bureau has to receive multiple complaints before they can do much about it.
As far as getting my picture off of their site, I waited on the phone for an hour with no answer by their represenatives. So.. for now I'll have to wait till later. I only have a cell phone so it was eating away at my precious day minutes. I am considering writing them a letter request for removal of my photograph.
Like in "The Christmas Story" "It's a major Award!
sorry you got yer hopes up. But dag, she IZ the award winning foal in my book!
As a long time sweepstaker and contest enterer, I am glad the two of you were not taken in by this scam. If you have won a legitimate contest or sweepstakes, you should NEVER have to pay ANYTHING in order to claim a prize. If you are asked to do so, contact, depending on your state, the attorney general or the district attorney. If the fraud is perpetrated by someone in another state, or if the contest or sweeps was held in more than one state, the Federal Trade Administration is responsible for handling sweepstakes and contest fraud. If anything regarding the sweeps or contest was sent via mail, you could also contact the Postal Inspector.
