As you may recall, we were all set to foster a 34 lb standard red long hair last month named Longfellow. He never did make it to our house because DRNA received at least 5 applications to adopt him as soon as he was posted, and he went home the week we were to pick him up to foster.
Last week Fella was returned to his rescuer. Although he is reportedly a sweet dog and has a wonderful personality, his new home did not work out because they do not have a fenced yard, and Fella simply will not potty on a leash.
I contacted rescue and told her we have a fenced yard and we are still willing to foster--oh what the h@#$, we'll just adopt and be done wtih it. So I filled out that app and am approved. We are getting him later this week.
His rescuer, Yolanda, is very happy because we both go to the Manassas dachshund meetups each month, so she will get to see Fella regularly. Perhaps that is why she jumped at the chance to give him to me, even though others had offered to take him previously. As a former rescuer, I can tell you that you almost never see the dogs again after you place them, and often you don't get updates either.
Woo Hoo - Congrats !!! I just knew that big boy belonged to you !!!!! How exciting ! Can't wait to hear all about him and see some pictures of your trio. Archie-Angel was watching out for a "fellow" big boy - he knew Fella should come to you :thumb:
(Once or twice a year I e-mail Brandy's foster mom just to let her know how things are going - she always seems so glad to hear ! That is great that you and Yolanda can hook up yearly !)
Yeah - That is such awesome news :hello2: I can't wait to see pictures and hear how he fits in with the family!!
We have our paws and toes crossed so you will get him, fingers to :xfinger: He couldn't have a better home.
Yay! This was meant to be. I know Yo will be glad to keep in touch with Longfella. I always email Brekke's breeder a couple of times a year and send her a current picture so she can see how Millie and Digger's daughter is doing! :thumb:
Fantastic news he is a lucky guy. We also keep da gangs breeder updated on them.
roberta
Any update? :xfinger:
Update anyone???????? I belong to two boards she belongs to and none have a UPDATE!! I guess no news is good news.
We picked up Longfellow Thursday evening. Boone and Skeeter have been getting along with him great and there have been no issues among the three dogs, with the following exception. Fella loves Boone and snuggles next to him at night--which makes Boone desperately HOT! LOL
Fella loves me and is my shadow. He is far too big to be a lap dog, but his leaps into my lap anyway. He LOVES me. He likes Kevin, but he LOVES me.
He needs a bit of work on training. He barks at the slightest things, like when Kevin gets up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. He can reach the kitchen table and counters when he stands up on his hind legs, and does so. He also is slow to respond to commands. I have been working on training. Fella is stubborn, but I have seen some slight improvement.
There was a red flag moment, when Fella growled at my neighbor and his little girl. he made no move to lunge or bite, but the growling worries me. A child can reach between the slats in my fence, so I cannot risk having an aggressive dog. As I mentioned above, I have been working on the barking and growling with a bit of success. If I do see any signs of aggression, I will have to return him.
Sounds like you have made big strides in just 3 days !!!! Sending doxie rays and prayers that all works out well. Can't wait to see pictures !!!
Hope it all works out. :xfinger: You are a patient person. Did you mention the aggretion to Yolanda?
