Good Morning everyone! Well i was contacted by a breeder on thursday who had a male piebald pup and i went to visit him yesterday and fell in love with him and brought him home. He is 8 weeks old and was the only pup out of this mommie's litter. He is as seet as can be. Here is the concern. As you know i have my male neutered 4 yr old doxie "Max".when they first came nose to nose Max snipped and growled at him and of course the puppy welped. I don't think Max is real thrilled with the idea of this new pup!! He did better last night , but this morning he snipped at him again. I think its when the puppy wants to play he runs up to max and max gets overwelmed anddoesn't like it. I really hope the two will get along at some point! Any help, encouragment, advice would be helpful because i really want to have a happy home with both pups and with nobody getting hurt too seriously
Thanks!
Kim
PS: The two also share the same birthday just 4 years apart.
Congrats on your new addition - very kewl that they have the same birthday. You will just have to take it slow and supervise 24/7 with the pups. Max is used to being the one and only - so it is strange for him. He will come around - but it will take work on your side to properly socialize them. Be sure to give Max extra attention - he will feel like you are focusing on the baby - and you don't want to leave him out. You got some other good info when you posted initially about bringing a new pup into the mix. Good luck and have fun !!! LEt us know how it goes !
we live in Australia where pups cannot go out to homes till minimum of 12 weeks old, but we picked up Ingrid due to the breeder being hospitilized and she the only pup, we had orders to not let her outside and contact with otehr dogs and not to leave her with the older ones as she could get squished.
Max will come round, it's just a bit put out at the present.
Good luck
Roberta
