Title: Ozzy and Boomer
Post by: MindyKay on May 29, 2007, 03:44:03 PM
We went to St. Louis to visit relatives, who had recently acquited a Havanese puppy, 9-week old Boomer.  Boomer seemed to think that Ozzy was a walking chew-toy!!

Anyway, before long, when Ozzy saw Boomer heading for him, Ozzy ran into Boomer with an impressive head-butt, rolling Boomer over on his back.  Ozzy would stand over Boomer and hold him down.  Still, after a while, Ozzy would tire out and seek refuge on the couch.  Boomer cannot jump on the couch, yet.

They were fighting over a rawhide chew-toy, so we broke one in half and gave a half to each, but each seemed to want each other's chew toy!!!  Soon, Ozzy was watching Boomer and with Boomer's short attention span, Boomer would leave his chew toy alone.  Seeing his chance, Ozzy would jump down, grab Boomer's piece and haul it to the couch.  While Boomer would frantically jump up against the couch, Ozzy would sit there as if to say, "Come and get it!"  Eventually, Ozzy would nose the toy close enough so that Boomer would get it, but again, Boomer would leave it alone, so Ozzy would go get it again!  This went on for quite a hilarious while.  At one point, Ozzy didn't even wait until Boomer tired of the toy, he got down off the couch and took the toy out of Boomer's mouth!

I'm sure glad Ozzy is mature and well-trained (in my humble opinion!).  With all the trials of having a new puppy, our relatives are as frazzled as they where when their kids were babies!!!

If we were to get another puppy (which I doubt), would this be an indication of how Ozzy would greet a new familiy member?  He did growl at Boomer a few times, when Boomer became a real pest, or was biting Ozzy's ears.  Pics will come later, I promise!
