Title: Suggestions Needed
Post by: lucylu on May 28, 2007, 11:23:04 AM
I will be teaching first grade this year. I am so excited!!! I would like to incorporate Lucy into my classroom theme. For example, Lucyville, Weinerville. Or for incentives paw prints, For luch count each day: What's for lunch Lucy? I would like to incorporate the dachshund theme somehow. Any suggestions for decorating the room or a welcome sign for the students? Your suggestions would be very helpful.  THANKS

I love the Paw Prints for incentives and the "What's for Lunch Lucy?" ideas. This should be a ton of fun to do and pretty easy to find stuff to work with. I'm sure someone on the board will have some ideas. Since Julia (Brekkesmom) teaches, she may have some for you.

If you have a "time out" type area for the kids who occasionally need it, it could be called "The Doghouse"

I love the time out "Doghouse" idea. Thanks for helping me brainstorm. I would have never thought of that on my own. Any more ideas, just keep them coming.
THANKS!!!!!!!!!

Hi, there!  Yes, I do teach second grade and I do use lots of dog ideas in my classroom - as does Rebecca (Frida's mom) next door.  I like the doghouse idea, too - wish I'd thought of that.  I usually make sure Brekke "checks" homework at least once a week, and she puts a paw print on her favorite - I do it with a stamp pad paw print though - because I don't want her to mark something before I get her cleaned off!  Do you have storytime during the day?  I always do at least a week of dachsie stories, and to be fair, I also do a week of cat stories, too!   If your school encourages teachers to dress up for Halloween, it would be a good time to have your dachsie in your classroom - that's usually when Brekke gets to visit.  Last year, I was a medieval queen, and Brekke was my lady-in-waiting - although it should have been the other way around!     Congratulations on your new job!

I found a daschie clip art and enlarged it. I will use it along with a bowl and bones. The bones are incentives for the whole classroom. Everytime the whole class is given a compliment by another teacher or when they have a marvelous day they will get to put a bone in Lucy's bowl. After accumulating 10 bones the class will get a special treat like extra recess, popcorn and a movie, or other ideas. It is called Good Dog Lucy!!
I also found a doghouse which I will use for the discipline chart. Little Lucys will stay in the green dog house for good behavior, one warning for misbehavior or inappropriate actions gets Lucy moved to the yellow doghouse, one more infraction moves Lucy to the blue dog house. And Please do not get moved to the red doghouse, that is serious business!!! Lucy will be so sad if she is moved to the red doghouse. Each little Lucy will have each students name written on her.

I love the idea of the different colors of doghouses. That is wonderful and I really love the "little Lucys"! I also thing the idea of the kids accumulating bones for a class treat is wonderful. I keep trying to come up with something else. Hopefully my brain will get in creative mode again at some point!
