My Toby-Man has developed an Aural Hematoma. Here is the simplest explanation I could find. http://www.thepetcenter.com/sur/hema.html
I noticed on Monday that he had a tiny tiny scab on his ear....looked like he was either bit by a bug or stuck himself with something. In any case it looked fine and I cleaned it well and it was not bothering him a bit. Last night I noticed that the bottom of the ear flap (right ear) was swollen and felt like it was full of fluid. He went to the vet this morning and they have drained it and he is wearing a pressure bandage until Saturday. We take him back on saturday morning and if it has recurred (about a 50% chance), he will need to have surgery on tuesday morning.
I am so terribly worried because the anesthesia is really hard for him. After all that he has been through with the heartworm and the horrible aftereffects, I hate to put him through it. As most of you know, he was High Heartworm Positive and his lungs were affected as well as his heart. He still gets "winded" easily when he is playing and tends to wheeze from time to time.
So...I'll let you all know how he is doing.
I really hate this for him. Poor little guy...he has certainly had enough!
Sorry to hear that Terry, big rays coming. Sometimes they don't have to put them right under, with Emma in later years Ray would give her a local and what he called a whiff, just enough to keep her still.........but tackle that if it comes.
Love and hugs from down under da gang
Oh no! Poor Toby, he has been thru ENOUGH!!! :meme:
I hope it clears up, and if not, I sure hope the vet can make it so the surgery is easy on Toby. Maybe there are options. Will keep him in my prayers and please let us know how he is doing.
Sending HHHHHH's & PPPPPP's for poor Toby. We will really be praying that it will clear up without needing surgery.
