Title: Merlin's disappearing act!
Post by: Doxherding Karen on May 15, 2007, 07:12:14 PM
How NOT to recuperate from a stroke!

My four-year-old grandson Orren (with cognitive deficits) was playing in the fenced yard with three of the  doxies on leashes when Merlin decided to stage a breakout!  He got close enough to the chain link driveway gates (which were latched AND chained shut) to force the gates apart enough to get out.  And it was off to the races!  I'm in complete panic mode.  My son-in-law Noah, who has no idea how to work with dogs, starts to run after yelling, "Merlin, get back here!"  I'm thinking, "Merlin won't respond to an angry voice."  My daughter Miriam is telling me, "Stay calm now, don't make this a big drama."  Let me tell you, anything happens to my dog and they won't be calling me Drama Queen for nothing!

I stay calm, Orren and Ashira, his two-year-old sister, and the three remaining doxies get ourselves situated - the doxies in Supermax Pelican Bay Lock-Down in my grandchild-proof bedroom, and the kiddies in the living room, and just as I get to the front door, there is Noah with Merlin in tow.  Merlin comes when I call him, he gets tons of treats and a whole lot of "Good dog, good dog, good dog." and all I lose is another five years off my life.

"So, otherwise, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?"

Oh NO!  I'm glad that he is okay (and so are you) and nothing happened! Penny has done that a couple of times and it scares me to death! They are so sneaky!!

That is scary!  They are sneaky, fast, and seem to find it hilarious to watch a human chase them.

Glad he is home safe.  Hopefully we won't equate running away to getting lots of treats!

Oh my Goodness....I am so glad Merlin is back home and safe!!!  Yes, I agree they are sneaky....Zoe has dug under our fence before into the neighbor's yard.  Luckily the two dobermans who live there weren't out at that moment!!

How scarey!  Glad Merlin is home safe.  Ozzy got out and almost got to a very busy street before we realized it.  We've got him trained to stop and roll on his back when we yell "NO!"  Still, you given 'em and inch and they'll take a mile!

Perhaps you'd like to consider renaming this escape artist Houdini?  Whew!  I was right on the edge of my seat reading this.  Yikes!  Glad he's back safe and sound.  I bet Merlin thought it was a merry chase.
