Zoe has Colitis....started with vomiting and diarrhea yesterday...wouldn't eat when I got home from work..then aw the tail tucked between the legs....took her to the vet. The vet said it was caused by namy things including stress....what stress? We can't figure it out. What are some other causes? So now no food until Saturday morning...right now she is looking at me like..."Okay mom...I got the shot last nite...took the pills and the liquid stuff...WHERE'S THE T-BONE!!! The Vet said the older she gets the more prone she will be to having flare ups...oh my...she is only 4!!! Zoe is my "troubled child"...the one who catches every bug...everything...the IVDD and now this...but I have good news...she has been on Purina Fit N Trim dog food and she has lost 2 pounds...so that is good on her back!!! How common is colitis in dogs?
Sorry the typing in my post was so bad....my best friend's father died and I am in a hurry to get ready for the funeral....so...please say a prayer for my friend Cindy too....they were extremely close...it is so hard....
Rays and prayers on the way for your baby and your friend......so hard....
Most of the Purina foods are not really a good food mostly fillers and corn, corn is hard to digest for dogs. You might try Wellness weight reduction food a better food cost a little more but feed less of it.Did you put Colitis in your search engine to find out more information about what causes it??? Think I would try to get more information about Colitis there.
Hope Zoe is feeling better soon.

Thank you for the information about Wellness Weight Reduction. I will definitely look into it. I have her on Purina Fit N Trim because the vet recommended it...it has worked as she has lost 2 lbs on it and my australian shepherd has lost 5 pounds on it.... he wanted Zoe to lose weight because of her back....
I will definitely search out colitis in animals...if it was due to stress, then I am sure that she has probably picked up on my stressful week from me...plus I have been at my friends house quite a lot since her dad died this past Monday and maybe Zoe has missed me.
Again, thank you for the information. I understand I must feed her boiled chicken, rice, cottage cheese for the next 3 or 4 days. Thank you for your information and concern.
Poor Zoe and your poor friend. I will pray for them both too.
I agree with Papbouv, Purina isn't the healthiest choice out there for dog food. Here are the first ten ingredients.
First Ten Ingredients
Ground yellow corn
soybean meal
ground whole wheat
soybean hulls
corn germ meal
corn gluten meal
turkey by-product meal
animal digest
animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E)
meat and bone meal
That is really quite bad for a dog food. Generally pick a food that does not have any corn, nothing with any kind of meat by product ("meal" is ok but not by-products). The first ingredient in a food should be a good protein (meat) source, not a grain and even better if the second and even third are good quality meat. Here is a good page to read on it.

Here is a page for the Wellness Papbouv recommended. It is an excellent food.

You can also try replacing (not in addition to) 1/4 of the food you are feeding with no salt canned green beans cut up. That helps fill them up without adding many calories. That has worked well for several on the board. I do that with Hallie I have been too liberal with the treats lately and she needs to take off 10 ounces.
Purina is a Cr_ _p food all of them the first ingredient is usually corn or it is one of the first three,I looked up the ingredients on Purina Fit & Trim Corn,Soybeans,Soy hulls no wonder she has Colitis. Vets usually do not know much about Dog Food or even what is in dog food i have been reading Dog Food Labels for years. You can also go to Whole Dog Jounral to see what food s are best I think I put it on the forum some time back. Yes boiled chicken and rice is bland will help the colon heal.
Hope Zoe gets well soon.

Sorry for any misspelled words Spell check not working.
Mz eLlIe has had a couple bouts of Colitis. (http://www.freesmileys.org/emo/sick001.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org) She was treated with SQ Fluids and antibiotics,Metronidazole, and a bland diet. Looking back , I think both times it was stress .... first after a trip to a new groomer, and second after a Halloween costume contest (when her Ladybug costume came in second to a Pug in a Bumblebee costume) (http://www.industreal.spb.ru/smiles/masyanya.gif)
We hope Zoe feels better soon.
Sorry Zoe hasn't been feeling well. Hope she gets better soon.
Cookie loves the Wellness Weight Reduction food.
Another food that is good is California Natural weight reduction- they have a chicken and rice formula for sensitive tummies and dogs with digestive issues. http://www.naturapet.com/brands/california-natural.asp
:thumb: Zoe seems to be feeling better today....boiled chicken, white rice and some low fat cottage cheese...she loves it...was so hungry I thought she was gonna eat bowl and all :2funny:...still wants that fat big juicy T-bone....Thank you all for your suggestions about dog food...I have visited their websites and have found out where to purchase them in Cinti....I appreciate all your concern and help...thank you so much :wink3:
Sorryif I came accross a bit strong i just hate the Dog Food compaines thay come across to the public about how their food is so great. I wish everyone would read dog food labels usually the first 3 ingredients are what the food has in it the most.I sometimes get carried away and get on my soap box.I hope I did not hurt anyones feelings.

Oh not at all...I appreciate your input....My vet has been really great and I have been going to them for a long time...that is why when he said Purina Fit N Trim was good to put Zoe on (and the fact that Sheba needed to lose a few pounds too), I just trusted him and put them on it....never feel that you are over-stepping any boundaries....I appreciate everyone on this list and appreciate their input and concerns....that's what we are all here for is to help one another....you can rest assured that my babies' food will change and they will all be placed on a better quality of food...I can buy Wellness Weight Reduction pretty close to me...thank you again...and I hope everyone has a very Happy Mother's Day Today!!
I'm so glad Zoe is feeling better! I went through colitis with my cat Sophie, it was no fun. Hopefully Zoe won't have any more bouts!
Glad to hear that Zoe is doing much better.... Giver her some hugs, kisses and belly rubs for me and Miss EmmyLou.... :comfort: :comfort: :comfort:
