A good friend of mine has a little Lhasa she rescued 5 years ago, from a family who did not know if he was a male or female and he didn't have a name. He was just left alone in the back yard all the time in really bad shape. He is now a very spoiled and very loved little boy, she brought him back to health and he really blossomed into a beautiful, healthy dog.
He started to decline a few months ago and got worse and worse. They recently finally figured out it was a huge tumor on his renal gland. They first thought he had kidney failure so the bit of good news is that if they can fix this tumor he has a chance of getting much better. The problem is he is now so weak and ill, he is drinking tons of water and peeing all over his bed and himself, yesterday she said she'd carry him out to pee and he would have to laying down he was too weak to stand. He's had bad nights the last few so she's had no sleep. He goes in for surgery tomorrow morning, we are scared to death of course but he won't last much longer like this. The vets said the biggest risk is that at the moment they remove the tumor his blood pressure will drop to nothing so they have to be ready. This last week or so his blood pressure has been too high so he's been on meds to bring it down but it hasn't worked so they can't wait any longer.
So any prayers and/or rays would be very appreciated I'm sure, his name is Lamar and he's a darling little boy.

She just called to say that he was just taken back to surgery, she was allowed to sit with him while he went under. They aren't sure how long the surgery will take, she said he had a bad night again last night. So as Delia said, either way his suffering should be over now of course we are praying hard it goes the way of him staying with us! Thanks for the good thoughts, I know she will be grateful. Hoping to hear good news in the next couple of hours. The waiting is a buggar!

Lamar is still in surgery. But they found the tumor had invaded his vena cava. So he has about a 50/50 chance of making it through the surgery. The vet came out at that point and asked him if they wanted him to continue...so it doesn't sound very good. I told Jen you guys are praying for them and sending good thoughts and she said to thank everyone. Keep up the prayers and rays this little guy just has to make it!
Dee Dee - that is so sad. Is this Jennifer that has Cinderella the cocker spaniel? I thought it might be when you siad Lamar - I remembered that you and she had a long time friend named Lamar. I feel so sorry for her - so hard to wait for news. Sending rays and prayers..... please keep us posted.
Thanks Barb, yes that's Jen and Lamar was named after our friend Lamar who wrote on the board a few times years ago! He was an amazing person...
Jen just called with some great news! I was afraid to pick up the phone....but she said he has survived the surgery! He went into it really weak, and there were two very risky pats in the surgery plus just the surgery itself...and he's beat all the odds so far! They even said his kidneys look good...(!!!!!) so if he can survive this he could get much much better than he's been! Right now they are giving him a blood transfusion and Jen and her husband can see him at 8 pm. The riskiest part is behind him, but he's not out of the woods yet by any means so he still needs lots of prayers but it's really a miracle he made it this far.
Many, many prayers for this little guy.
rays from Oklahoma Gizmo,Patches & Buddy
Papbouv
Thanks just talked to her again they got to see him, he is doped up with tubes and such but he's holding his own!
Here are some pictures of him. The first two were not long after she got him, he was a mess. The third was some time after that and the fourth was probably a year or two ago? This photo made it into the 356 dogs calendar.
Wow - what a transformation ! That is what a loving home will do for you....I can't imagine what Lamar endured at that awful never home. Please let us know how he is doing this morning. Rays on the way that he had a restful night.....
Mega Rays for Lamar....so glad he made it through the surgery....he looks just like my little Lhasa (Chelsey) that I had... :apls: :apls: We are all praying to hard......he looks like such a sweet boy....I am glad he has such a good home!!
THanks you guys. She called again today and he made it through the night, has been able to get up and ate some on his own. She said he looks all beat up but it sounds like he's doing real good for what can be expected at this point.  I really didn't think they'd be bringing him home from this...now he might go home tomorrow if he is strong enough. It will be a long recovery road but heck...just so thankful there is a recovery road! Pretty amazing.
Cheryl did you trim your lhasa down like Lamar's cut? Marcia with Sam and Eddie on the board had a lhasa too at one time named Sulley.
Dee Dee - how did Lamar do over the week end?
DeeDee...I didn't see this post until today. How is that sweet little guy doing? Just the fact that he made it through the surgery after all he has been through really speaks volumes for the power of love. Tons and Tons of Dachsie Rays and prayers coming from Florida for Lamar! Let us know how he is doing.....
Lamar came home Saturday  he probably feeling like you'd expect, weak and sore but he ate she said and drank and when he pee'd it was yellow! It's been so dilute for so long from all his drinking it is usually more clear. So that was good! I haven't heard from her yet today but I imagine he is still doing fine. Thanks for asking and caring about him, it's amazing what can be done with lots of love and good care.
Good news, looking at him aI can definately say our Teddy has a large part of Lhasa in him. We'll send some rays for them both.
roberta
Thanks Roberta. :) I don't think I know Teddy....whose is he?
The latest report is Lamar is still doing ok but his blood pressure is high again as is his heart rate. We were thinking the surgery would take care of the high BP. He'll go back in on Monday to have it checked again and still waiting for the path report on the tumor.
Oh no! His blood pressure and heart rate shot up again?! How discouraging. Let us know what the vet says on Monday. Talk about a roller coaster ride for Jen. Is she doing as well as can be expected?
Oh I am so discouraged to hear that Lamar's blood pressure and heart rate are high again...poor little fella...Mega Prayers on the way again   ....Yes, I did have my Lhasa trimmed exactly like Lamar...it is so much easier...as a matter of fact, Lamar looks just like my Chelsey....Please keep us posted....again...Mega Prayers coming for Lamar!!!
   Major rays for Lamar on the way from Idaho... Hope things take a turn for the better soon.... EmmyLou sends slurpy puppy kisses for him also..... :comfort: :comfort: :comfort:
He goes in today to get his bp checked and hopefully the pathology report on the tumor, but he is still feeling a little better every day! He still drinks a lot too she said but he is peeing yellow which he wasn't before. He's a tough little guy. She is doing OK but pretty tired, she doesn't complain so I'm not sure how much but I think she's starting to get some sleep now too. :thumb:
Dee, it's been crazy around here and I just don't get to check in as much as I'd like. I just saw this post. Major rays going to Lamar. We're rootin' for ya here in SLO, CA.
Hoping Lamar is still progressing...sorry I missed this - I often just check the first four topics and don't always scroll down. How precious that he is named for Lamar. I remember how much I enjoyed his stories on the other board! I bet Lamar has some major rays for his canine namesake, too.
