Zeke has discovered a new pasttime: chasing rabbits. When I let the Zs out to go pee for the last time before they go to bed, there invariably is a rabbit in our backyard (technically, they are hares, but whose counting?). Zeke usually charges, but the rabbit has such a head start that it's not even an issue. Zeke set off after one last night. He was actually gaining on it, but the rabbit used its superior turning ability to turn inside Zeke and made a beeline straight for Zora. Zora just sat there and let the rabbit go by without even batting an eye at it. Afterwards, Zora just had this look on her face as if to say "You want me to catch what? With my what?...I don't think so." Clearly she does not share Zeke's enthusiasm for these critters.
Zeke, for his part ended up sniffing around for about 10 minutes trying to reacquire the scent, but eventually gave up, came in, went into his crate and started snoozing.
That is so funny David! My Buelah would do EXACTLY what Zora did. Toby would be going NUTS!
Post mortum of a chase are da best

Our two hang out in the yard with the rabbits! I have seen the bunnies as close as 4 feet from the dogs, and Boonie and Skeeter don't care. The local rabbits have no fear of our dogs at all!
Ugh...Penny LOVES the pellets that the bunnies leave behind in our local park. :verdict:

Hmmm...it sounds like some rabbits may be in for a rude awakening next week
Does this mean Zeke and Zora are going visiting????
We have a rascally rabbit that lives in our neighborhood....and he taunts us all de time !!! Mama has our leashes on when we come out our front door and dere he is sittin' in our yard just lookin' at us !!!! Both me and Brandy have pulled the leash out of mama's hand and have taken off after dat rabbit....but alas, we have not caught it..... YET !!!!
Rudy and Brandy in Texas
Barb here - this rabbit just waits for us to come out....... and 2 days in a row, each of the kids took off so fast and I didn't have a good grip on the leash - they chased them around the house with their leashes dragging behind....and that rabbit would run and get ahead and turn around and stare and hop straight up in the air and then take off..... Too funny - on the 3rd day, I had a tight grip, but let both of them..and me.....chase the rabbit for a minute - LOL!

Shhhhh....not so loud! The Zs don't know yet. We're heading out of town for a few days to visit Margie's family in Louisville and Jeri and Kevin were nice enough to watch the Zs for us.

Skeeter doesn't know yet either! Just wait until she finds out she has to share her daddy!
Keep your fingers crossed that we will have whacked down the jungle in our yard by then. Our lawn mower BROKE! There is about three weeks growth back there, and in some places the grass is taller than the dogs! Fortunately our yard isn't tick and flea infested and I have seen no pests on Boonie and Skeeter.
The mower should be fixed by the weekend, maybe even friday. Unfortunately Kevin has a final on friday (he is graduating with a master's in geography this semester) and works both days this weekend. I am not sure how we will do it, but we will get the mowing done somehow.
I plan on staying home this weekend, cleaning, planting, and spoiling wiener dogs. So bring on the Zs, they'll fit right into my plans!
Hee. 10 minutes of sniffing can wear a guy out. Especially when it's following a good bunny-chase.
