April 24, the landlord called Amy and said they had to be out of the house by May 1st. Amy said no way, I signed the lease through May 15, after finals week. The landlord showed up with a lease that looked like it had been copied and scanned several times and the "5" had "mysteriously" disappeared. Since they had no copy of the original lease, Amy and her friends had no choice but to quickly find other living arrangements, right before finals.
Our truck broke down, so all we had to move her with was our mini-van with the rear and middle seats taken out. It took about six trips, and we simply threw things into the house, garage, and basement, still, we got her moved by May 1st. We are still trying to get the house straightened up - somewhat. It still looks like a tornado came through my house. :BangHead:
We had someone come out to the house and vacuum out our air conditioning/furnace ducts. In a few days, we will be having our furnace and air conditioner taken out and new ones installed, so it is not worth it to try to keep the house clean at this point, which is driving me crazy. :idiot:
I just hope Ozzy is not as stressed as me. The poor guy had to stay in the kennel, even though we were home, because of the hoses and such when they cleaned our air ducts. And, it was very noisy! I can only imagine the stress when he sees strange people around the house making lots of noises. Not to mention he goes to the vet tomorrow for a heartworm test.
The good news is that finals are over and Amy is hoping for a 4.0 GPA. She is aiming for graduating summa cum laude next year. Now, she is living at home with us. She is looking for a job, and has a good lead for a job at a local long-term care facility. I'm so proud of her.
Sounds like you've had yourself a WEEK. Not boring around there, huh? :apls: For Amy. That's great. I hope she gets the job she wants. GOOD FOR HER!
Oh man, that makes me so mad that a landlord would do that, especially to college students right before finals! :cussing: At least you were able to get her home in time. But she learned an important lesson: always get a copy of your rental agreement.
Congratulations to Amy on doing so well in her classes. Good job! :thumb: I hope she gets everything she wants.
Certainly sounds crazy!
Please forgive me for crossing the line here. Amy is shooting for a 4.0 and summa cum laude and that is truly admirable. But book smarts alone don't cut it. You need real life smarts, too! When you sign a contract, keep your original in a safe place!
I completely agree with you, Jeri. Some of the most important lessons learned in college are NOT learned the classroom!!!
Congratulations to Amy for doing so well in school...I am sure she is going to obtain her dream job....you have every right to be proud as punch.... :headbang: Now....yuck phooey :soapbox: to the mean old landlord who would do that to someone...especially right before finals!!! May the fleas of a thousand camels infest his armpits!!! (whoa...I think I just dated myself...hahaha)...oh well....hope things calm down soon for you...it will be wonderful having that new furnace and air conditioner....as for the house? Well....don't worry about the mess today...it will be there tomorrow and "it's not eating anything...haha". Poor Ozzy about the heartworm test...I have my babies on Heartguard all year round because they "spaz" when that test is taken...just give Ozzy lots of love and belly rubs and treats and he should be fine...he may even love all the people in his house because that just means there are more people who will fall in love with the little guy :thumb:
