Title: Should I be sore after Porky's obedience class? LOL
Post by: doxielady5569128 on April 17, 2007, 07:58:43 PM
  I'm thinking its not normal to have a backache and sore leg muscles the day after taking your dog to obedience class.   :dontknow:  I honestly am very sore today.  Not sure why.  I think its because I was either bent down trying to get Porky to sit, or squatted down to his level.  My hamstrings are telling me they don't like what I did to them last night.   :2funny:  I saw a person from class and she said she was sore too.  We really got to laughing about it since we are both in our 20s.  Thankfully, i haven't gotten stiff like she has.  She had quite a limp.      Honestly, we looked like to very old women staggering around.

Anybody else get sore after an hour and half of dog obedience class?  Or are we just wimps??    :bandaid:  I run and walk every day so i wouldn't think it would be cause I'm out of shape?  :dontknow:  Also at my job in the bookstore, I am constantly up and down sorting heavy books.  But, I have never gotten sore from it.  Let me know what you all think.  Thanks!

Not sure if I could tell you if you are sore from obedience class or not I know with little dogs you can use a dowl rod to get them in postion BUT the dog has to be use to the dowl so the dog will not be scared of it.Their is a book called Competive Obedience Training for the Small Dog by Barbar Cecil & Gerianne Darnell if you can check it out of the Libary it has some good ideas in it working with little dogs.
Buddy & I did ok at class the one thing he is not going to do well with is to look at me while the instuctor comes around with a food distraction next week. Buddy thinks he is starving most of the time heck he is a teenaged boy basicly so know we will not pass that one. After class a dog stuck his nose on Buddy's butt Buddy spun around to play with the dog his butt hit my leg the one with the Total Knee he hit it very hard. When I got to the car had a big knot come up about 2" from my Total Knee now swollen across the leg under the knee hope he did not knock something loose.Seems to work ok just sore hope I make it though this class in one piece.
Glad Porky enjoyed his first class I'm sure you two will do great.

Yes, definitely you will be sore after over an hour of bending down and squatting if you have not been excersizing and stretching.  That might be something you would want to do during the week to minimize future aches....and Porky would love to have you down at his level.  You might also want to stop by a health store and get some arnica montana.  This is a homeopathic remedy for body aches and pains and I highly recommend it.

P.S. with spring coming lawn work is another activity that will make your legs shout at you.

Well, I'm not 20, I'm 52, but when I took my dogs to class, I found that stooping down all the time gave me a sore back.  So I started bringing a short stool to sit on.  That brought me down to Willy and Alex's level, and it was easier to do things with them.

You need my grandmother's cure-all remedy: Stoli and minty linement.  Works for 99% of all aches and sickies.
ha ha--in your 20's.  Ha hA!

Sounds like you're using muscles that aren't used to being used.  I walk a lot but still have really tight muscles because I'm guilty of forgetting to stretch.  Patty's idea about the stool sounds good.  In the meantime, maybe some Watkins Red Liniment would help with those stretched out, sore muscles.  That stuff is POTENT and it must be good.  It's been around for a LONG time. :thumb:

:2funny:  I'm not nearly as sore today.   I think it was just because I didn't stretch out my muscles first.   I had a long jog this morning and oddly that seemed to help.  I still can't get over how sore i was.  Its so strange.  Between my walking, jogging and workign in the bookstore you would think my muscles would have been in great shape.  Oh well.   :dontknow:  Apparently I need to stock more books on the lower shelves for the next three days i'm here.   :2funny:  I really like the stool idea.  i'm not entirely sure it would work to well these first few weeks though.  We were on the move quite a bit.
