Title: Senior(est) Wiener?
Post by: Mike on April 05, 2007, 11:37:00 AM
Sadly, we've said farewell to two reigning Senior Wieners in the past six months.  We need to know who has been annointed and crowned our new Senior Wiener.  I know it's not Clifford as he's a mere 12 years and 11 months.

So, who do we have who is over 13 years and counting?

Guinness here just turned 12 on March 15th, but he has to lead the Herd, including Dr. Beau Leaky the book-chomping, shoe-chewing, wallet-eating, keyboard-gnawing Herd member, so Guinness deserves a special mention!

It's mot easy guarding EVERYTHING from the clutches of the destructive Dr. L!  :comfort:

Sounds like Senior Sam is now our Senior Weiner.   He joins a list of very distinguished dachsies:  Harry (owned by Patti), Mr. Puppy (I'm having a senior moment myself...can't remember who he was owned by), Max C. (me) and Ivan (Mack).    Harry, Mack and Ivan all made it to past 17, Mr. Puppy lived an amazing 20 years.

Stormy turned 14 last month as you all know we're grateful for every day. We hope somehow he makes it to 15.

Ha!  I had to boot up my old pc and find the spreadsheet with everyone listed.  Mr. Puppy was owned by Jill in Washington State.  His siblings were Simon, Reba & Winston.

It was nice to read the names of those we don't see posting on this version of the board.  I hope they are all doing well.

Mr. Puppy was owned by Jill, a super cool lawyer in Washington state.  I got to meet both of them and also the doxie-chihuahua mix named Winston who took a shine to Misty when we were at a bow-wow at DDs.  It was funny to watch because Misty was flirting and loving the attention.  If Winston got interested in something else, she would bark at him, as if to say here I am!

I met the venerable Mr. Puppy at DD's in 2001, saw the romance blossom between Winston and Misty, as well as noticing a certain Scootersmom try to figure out how she could get Mr. Puppy away from Jill!  That was the same bowwow when the infamous toothbrush story came out, Sandi had one too many of Adela's lemon drops, and we discovered DD has this gorgeous kitchen, but doesn't cook - except for microwave popcorn! And so as not to leave out the Bakersfield contingent, that was the bowwow of Siglen-Angel's "fountain of pee".  And wasn't Reggie cute protecting Tucker? (Say, has anyone heard from Tracy lately?)

Ohhhh grooooan.  Geeeeez, Julia, will I ever live that down? LOL.  We did have fun, didn't we.....Adela's Demon Lemon Drops aside.  I remember sitting and laughing over Noel crooning....."Miiiiiiister Puppppppppy".  And Misty and Winston were a HOOT!

Hey!  I've heard from Traci!  She's our newest member here....TuckersMom.  She wrote such a lovely email to me about Dolly.  She's doing great.  Her little human kidlet is FIVE now.....can ya believe it?  Tucker and Reggie are still bouncing around.  Maybe Traci will stop by and say "howdy".

It's interesting that all of the Senior(est) Weiners were (present tense "are" for Sam's case) male dachsies, and that four out of the five seniors were/are smoothies (Harry was a wire-haired dachsie).

Here is our most senior wiener now -- Tootsie. She is 12 years old. Melanie and I also have her son, Willie, who is 11.

Melanie adopted both of them out of a shelter in Pensacola, Florida, last spring. They were brought to the shelter along with two other doxies by a man whose wife had died. He told the shelter staff that he couldn't bear to have them around because the memories of them all together with his wife were too painful. Melanie was able to get all four out of there and get them into rescue. One, a senior longhair, went to Almost Home Dachshund Rescue. Florida Dachshund Rescue took the other three. Actually, Tootsie and Willie never made it to FLDR because Melanie adopted them the same day. Tootsie and Willie are bonded and so sweet -- Melanie couldn't let them go.

I have to say they are indeed the sweetest, most easy doxies. They are both in excellent health.
