Title: Rays needed for Porky Pie!
Post by: doxielady5569128 on April 03, 2007, 03:01:25 PM
Hi everyone.  We had quite a scary night at our house last night.  After i got home from work I picked Porky up from the neighbors and let him outside.   when he went to the bathroom, his stools were a little loose. EEWW!!!   I didn't really think much of it, but called the neighbors and asked if Porky had eaten anything.  They said no he hadn't, but they thought it was strange that he was acting really sleepy.   i guess he cuddled up with their dog April (a yellow lab) and slept the whole time he was over there.   I asked if he had drank a lot of water while over there and they said no.   So..since he hadn't eaten or drank anything over there, i decided to give him a little brown rice and go to bed.   We layed down to go to sleep around 11 pm.

About midnight last night, I heard Porky yelp loudly, and heard a splashing noise on the bed.  Gross!!  his little tummy had exploded on him.  From the back end.  GROSS!!!!   I rushed him outside so he could finish out there while i cleaned up.  When I brought him in he seemed to be very lethargic.   We rushed him into the vet hospital and they ran blood tests and the whole nine yards.   We were all scratching our heads trying to figure out why he was so sick.   They had us take him back home and instructed us to watch him really closely.   He kept whimpering because his tummy hurt.  The vet called about an hour ago to say the tests came out just fine.   Porky has perked up and is back to his happy self again.  The vet suspects that he is allergic to something in his dog food.   But, we aren't really sure.  We are supposed to keep him on he rice diet for the next two days and gradually mix in a new kind of dog food in with it throughout the week and see if he is still having problems.

Any ideas what could be going one?  My first thought was that he got milk from somewhere, because milk makes him violently ill.  But, no one had given him any of that.   I'm really hoping it was just an allergy thing like the vet believes.   It sure was scary to see him like that!   Another possible cause is that he got him self too worked up from the thunderstorm????  i really am not sure.   We are making him drink LOTS of water and watching him really closely.

Poor baby Porky Pie.  Could it have been something in the neighbor's yard that he munched on?  Maybe a plant that you don't have?  Sure hope this is the end of the squirts and queasy tummy and that our Porky is feeling better.  Dachsie rays on the way.

Not sure what it could have been, but it sounds awful.  The rice should stabilize things though.  That's what I feed my dogs when things get too runny.  Poor little Porky!

Thank you all for your rays!!!   Porky is doing much better.   We took him back to the vet yesterday and he got a clean bill of health.    :apls:  He has had no more...um...explosions and  is back to his onery self again.  We are almost 100% positive it was a reaction to his food.  Although, I did find out he got a potato chip the night before, so that may be the culprit as well, since it was one of the baked kind with Olestra in it.  Our little neighbor boy gave him one when he went to see Porky and April at the nice neighbor's house.

I am so relieved Porky is doing better.   It was terifying to see him like that.  He wouldn't wag his tail and just laid like a dead fish in my arms.  Even when he was poisoned last summer he was still wagging his tail!   He is still pretty sleepy, which we think is from all the water, etc...he lost that night.  Let me tell ya, waking up to that mess was not a fun thing,  Especially at midnight!    Neither was giving a bath to a dirty dog that just wanted to go to sleep.  I gave up on trying to get him to stand for the bath and just hosed him down in the shower.

Poor Porky! That would have scared me to death too. I have not heard of a dog screaming out when they have a "runs attack" like that, I'm glad it wasn't something worse and that he is feeling better again. He sure has been through a lot in his short life, the adventures of Porky Pie!

I think he cried out because it either scared him or he thought he was going to be in trouble for not getting outside.  He hates getting scolded!

Poor Porkie!
Glad he is feeling better.  Poor little guy must have been in pain.  Nothing is worse than seeing our babies in pain.
