Title: Cookie has a bump on her throat...
Post by: Valerie on March 30, 2007, 10:05:34 AM
Our last vet visit turned up something not so good- Our vet found a bump on Cookie's throat.  She took a sample and its either a spindle tumor or she thinks it may be a "reactive mass" due to be incubated for her back surgery in January.  I remember them checking her out before surgery and feeling her throat and lymph nodes and saying everything was fine then.  Our vet thinks its a little too coincidental that she developed this bump after the surgery.

I am feeling really frustrated with all our vet visits lately.  Cookie needs to visit a dental surgeon really bad.  We have been trying to take her for a year.   Last summer we got all her bloodwork done so she could get the dental surgery done and they found abnormalities with her urine and blood and thought she may have Cushing's disease or some other kidney problems. Well, we did all the tests and her kidneys were fine, no diabetes, no Cushings... Phew!   Several hundred dollars in lab fees later, she was fine!
So, the holidays were coming up so we decided to save our money up and get her dental work done in Jan.

Well, most of you know- end of Dec her back started going out and on Jan. 3rd, she had back surgery.  So we put off the dental surgery to April.  We re-did her bloodwork for the dental (we wanted it to be current for the anesthesiologist).  Now there is this lump. Sigh.. :sad11:

Our vet said she knows we probably want to kill her for finding these things with Cookie- she is really trying not to make our lives difficult...

Ugh- that was a lot to get off my chest- I know I should just be happy to have a healthy dog that can walk, but all these vet bills and tests just don't seem to end!  i want to get her teeth done and just be done with vet visits for a while!  :verdict:

Sounds like you and Cookie have had a rough time of it lately.  Sending out rays and prayers that the mass is nothing serious.

I know it seems overwhelming - we've certainly been in similar situations and send rays for Cookie and your family.  The good news seems to be that Cookie's problems are treatable.  That is truly something to be thankful for - trust me.

Thanks.  Yes, so far they are treatable and I am so thankful for that.  We have an appt with the surgeon on Thursday to see what we are going to do about the lump and we'll keep everything crossed that it is not the C word.  :xfinger:

I am just so stressed out about her teeth- since we adopted her as a rescue 2 yrs ago she came with bad teeth- although we didn't realize how bad until last summer- she is almost in stage 4 of gum disease and has already lost a tooth.  Its $1500 to get the dental work done, which is hard to swallow when we just paid over $5000 for back surgery and who knows how much for all the lab work last summer.  I hate not getting everything done for her right away but as soon as we get the money (for the teeth) something else keeps popping up.    I swear every time we make a dental appt, something else comes up that has to be taken care of first.
