Title: Best way to introduce a kitten into household
Post by: al on September 02, 2005, 11:32:06 AM
Hi all...
I have a 3 year old male (of course he has a great temperment) however, my wife just bought a kitten (last night).  The kitten is upstairs in a spare bedroom, while Scribby has the entire house (minus that bedroom) at his disposal.  Any thoughts on how to introduce them to each other.  The kitten is 8 weeks old.  BTW we did have a cat who passed away last month, so Scribby does know how to interact.  I am just concerned as the kitten is sooooo small..

Thanks in advance !
Al

I would let them smell each other's noses and make sure you kept them under control so if there was a bad reaction you could remove them from the area quickly.  I'd think mybe through a babygate or something like that would work.  The kitten being so young probaly doesn't hav ea fear of dogs and if your dog is used to cats that will make it much easier, as he probably won't see the kitten as "prey".  Just let them sniff and smell each other then if that goes smoothly let them have more contact with each other.  I wouldn't leave them alone at first though, just in case they had a problem getting used to each other.
